Why are so sensitive? I didn't say you were lying about the fact, in fact nobody was talking about that.

I was criticizing you, you played victim too far, you blamed people of hating your people while you look down on most of them who, in fact, were neutral enough not to hate you or your people in the first place. It is like the pre-WW2 jews in Europe who demanded to be treated and accepted equally by the german mass but they refused to look the german workers equally. They had the so called "Ueberlegenheitsgefuhl" or "Congkak" in our language.

You blamed non-chinese Indonesians for their behaviour towards chinese in 98's, it is okay to me, because yes, I acknowledge that the 98 tragedy was tragic and is not to be repeated in the future.

But to prevent that from happening again, we need a mutual cooperation. Let me put this easier for you, you simply want to be loved by your countrymen is that right? why don't you start loving them and stop thinking that you feed non-chinese or non-chinese can't live without chineses? We are talking about a goddamn country, without the non-chinese giving the chinese an equal footing, the chinese wouldn't be prosperous today, the same with the non-chinese workers who need the chinese businessmen to employ them.

Just like massive Thai pirates rape/loot freeing Vietnamese boat people during 1980s. I and my family did not involve so South VN should not hate me just because I'm Thai.

Yes playing victim. Look, you may have the right to be paranoid and I can understand that, I offer my condolences to what happened to you. But you use the 98 tragedy to justify your SARA views on today's events, you judge and look down on the newer generation of non-chinese who had nothing to do with the maiming of your people in 98, it is a clear victim play. My generation don't have anything to do with what happened in 98's, yet you generalize all of non-chinese as the same to those who are responsible for 98 tragedy.

If you came from an older generation, as you said, I hope you know that your generation will end soon enough and I hope you don't raise your kid to be as self-centered as you.

There has already been independent commission to investigate the tragedy (set up in reformation time), and they don't find any proof. 100 who died was Native Indonesian. Western journalist are always sided if Christian become the victim. I was there at the scene though, using my university jacket to disperse the crowd which actually many of them were just kids from poor family. We have explained it in other thread where Chinese PDF members were also participated on the talk. No need to waste the time discussing some thing that has already been discussed.

This is the math: Soeharto backed Chinese ethnic Conglomerate through KLBI (Kredit Likuiditas Bank Indonesia) /Cheap Money From Central Bank) to feed their business. It is because Soeharto strategy not to make Native Indonesian become big entrepreneurs (except their clan/ Golkar) that can challenge him politically. It was just like when Dutch favors Chinese ethnic businessmen and cornered Muslim Businessmen (SDI/Serikat Dagang Islam) since SDI has challenged Dutch politically (before our Independence). This strategy makes inequality among Indonesians, and make Chinese ethnic seen as Soeharto financial supporter/ backing.

So common people who dislike Soeharto blames Chinese ethnic Businessmen and burned their shop since everything associated with Soeharto was hated by people, particularly when soldiers killed university student protester at Mei 1998.

We should look toward future. Past is past. Dead people cannot bring back to life. Injustice is everywhere.
But ask me if I would belief that thing never happened when I see 1998 pictures on that year? I don't belief that.

It happened, but no dead or raped victim from Chinese ethnic ever found (this is very easy to be found, just checking Police report or Hospital data in Jakarta). And Soeharto feel not long after Mei 1998, so the data was still fresh when independent investigation did the research. (The riot only happened in 2-3 days in Jakarta)

Seriously stop it, Phukimak. If you so bitter about your life in Indonesia, just moved. It will be better for everyone, for yourself, for your family, and for the rest of us. Just go to New Zealand or apply asylum to USA. Or if you are wealthy enough just buy the residence permit/citizenship either in Singapore, USA, HK, Australia or anywhere else you want.

Talking about 98, you are not the only one who old enough to remember and experience it. At least you and your family are lucky enough to have both the money and the chance to run away. At that time i don't even have enough money or the chance to run while living in the middle of Kampoeng and very near to the Masjid. Lucky for me nothing happen in our area. Thanks to that experienced, it gives me the drive to success.Today I already have enough of both, after some test, i live in Indonesia by choice now. Yes, something in Indonesia still frighten me but overall thing is getting better now. Although i like it, i do realize not everyone can stand the pace of living in developing world.
