Five reasons why Indonesia's presidential election matters

@nufix

In Australia, it is about 80 % voters went to Jokowi camp (not really precise though in term of my memory, a city or a whole nation representation that they are talking), there is a special program in Australia TV that covers our election for 1 hours, I get the info from that channel.

In Indonesia, a respectable survey gathering institution like LSI said that around 53 % for Jokowi and the rest for Prabowo. Jakarta seems in a Jokowi camp either. Sumatra and West Java according to a survey/ research institution go for Prabowo.

A good coverage from Al-Jazeera/BBC/CNN......

I believe LSI number is valid, so Jokowi is actually a real winner.

At the moment we have 2 winning presidents.. depending on which TV station you are watching. :-)

Guys, I read on Chinese media, some Indonesian Chinese were threatened to vote for some particular candidate, they were scared, is it true?

It is better to hear it from respected international media like CNN/AL-Jazeera/BBC...or any of respected Australian TV channel and media. They are all in a positive tone about our election fairness.

who's winning?

Both sides claims victory, but it seems a respectable polling institute is claiming Jokowi is in the lead :unsure:

@Indos

so who do you think is going to win? i hear its a heated race !

As I said before, Quick Count conducted by respectable survey institution said that Jokowi has won. Based on our history, our respectable survey institution Quick Count result is always very match with the actual number from the election authority institution (KPU).

Yes, LSI, IPI, SMRC, KOMPAS, CSIS-CYRUS, Poltracking Institute, RRI (National Radio/Government own), Populi Center. All of them said that Jokowi/Kalla has won.

LSI is the most respected survey institution in Indonesia.

I support him as well, we are in the same camp though :partay:

who does he have to please to get into power?

there must be some alliance partners getting to make hay out of this.

Also, what are the party platforms, apart from corruption?

Indonesian are not like a divided nation as many outsider see from our close election result . Actually, many of Islam political parties (3 parties) support Prabowo. One Islamic political party (PKB) support Jokowi. 2 largest Islamic organization with huge follower are neutral (NU/Muhammadiyah), but two former NU and Muhammadiyah Chairman are in Jokowi Camp (Hasyim Muzadi/ Ahmad Syafii Maarif).

Actually I am more Islamist oriented person as you can see from my post here, but I support Jokowi since as a person he is more clean, and he brings Yusuf Kalla (from Islamist group) to be his vice president. In the end, our politics will be defined by "people in middle" like me and others, who uses rational thinking than just mere ideology. Combating corruption and personality of the leader (honest/good track record/humble) is the priority of Indonesian now. Thats why I choose him and Yusuf Kalla.

For the platform, All of them are Nationalist, Sosialist and Keynesian in economics. Liberal economics cannot be sold in our election.

Just like any Nationalist and Socialist minded people wants, more stake in energy and mining sector for our national owned company, more gas for our industry and less export of our gas. Building oil refinery in the first year of their term. Health and education insurance for all Indonesian (our current leader actually has done this, but they want to do something more). Strengthening our Anti Corruption Commission (KPK) with more financing and investigator.

Actually, all candidate are good at their program. Indonesian just buy someone that they can believe. Because as we can see from our previous government, they didnt really keep their election promise.
