Five New Airlines, An Alarm of Strong Competition to Already Struggling PIA

Pakistan international airline will have to bear the brunt of another scenario, and this time it will be competition. Five New Airlines will make their appearance in the airline industry of Pakistan and passengers will get some hands-on options against the traditional monopoly of PIA. The open sky policy has attracted these airlines and competitiveness will also reduce the fares. The New Airlines that will be operational in the span of one year are Askari Air, Air Siyal, Go Green, Liberty Air and Afeef Zara Airways.

According to the sources, numbers of airline passengers have soared to 20 million an increase of 40%. Data from international Air transport association has (IATA) has provided that, aviation industry of Pakistan will grow at the rate of 9% yearly and this is forecasted to grow up till 2020.

Muhammad Zafar Malik who was at forefronts of formulating national aviation policy of 2015 has shared his views regarding the entry of new airlines as ‘the open skies policy has been very productive for the industry as well as people’.

The New Airlines will probably start from low profit and distant destinations like Skardu, Chitral, Gilgit, Bannu, Parachinar, Gwadar, Turbat, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Dalbandin, Zhob, Rawalakot, and Muzaffarabad. Among the distant ones the northern destinations will prove to be very lucrative as it will facilitate tourism and also the substantial part of CPEC is enriching the adjoining areas with the huge flow of workforce and trade.

PIA had 45 aircrafts, but the fleet shrinks to 18 and now it is at 35.

lol, I misread it as "Five New Airlines, An Alarm of Strong Competition to Already Smuggling PIA".
With all the smuggling PIA workers have been doing PIA should be a multibillion dollar enterprise, but it seems they must be flying the money to Switzerland. Whenever I want to buy a ticket they are always sold out and always sell at extortionate amount even when the fuel prices are rock bottom.

Number of passenger increased 40% and constantly growing but surprisingly PIA loss increasing inspite of busy schedules and full flights. Also other Airlines increasing there profit.

I think privatisation is the only option left to get rid off corruption.

PIA needs to be dissolved. That's the only solution for the crooks running/ripping off this airline. Our rulers have ruined it with over-staffing and mismanagement. When these idiots claim that PIA was one of the best in world and that it played lead role in creating/establishing many other airlines (Emirates, Qatar Airways, etc.), that sound very silly. PIA is one of the most corrupt and plagued airlines in world. It has less than 40 planes but more staff than Turkish Airways has (with 350 planes). Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar Airways, created and used their hubs to fetch passengers from across the world to let them travel through their hub onwards to their destinations. Even smaller airlines like Air Arabia is following the same model and expanding fast - I think it has more than 300 planes right now. And look at the ugly monkeys sitting in PIA offices. These idiots have no concept of making Karachi as a hub and turning it into a connecting point for passengers traveling from America/Canad and Europe to travel onwards to China, CARS, BD, Sri Lanka, Far East, etc. and vice versa. They are rather closing their existing routes. What a shame. Better shut it down. Create a new one in cooperation with a private operator (like management of Sialkot airport).

PIA was part of PPP's 10000 job creation program in their last term, dont blame PIA. I have told this before what happened in my trip to Pakistan in 2005. I had Toronto/Islo/Karachi flight, on stop over at Islo airport, at 30 peroson cleaning crew came on board. for each isle, one cleaner, then one observer, then one supervisor then head supervisor and God know how many, the whole plane was filled with cleaning crew.

PIA has the amount of staff as Turkish Airlines and look at thier fleet size...

Sir I think PIA still has great potential, if a strong leader comes into power and revamp, cut loses, hire and fire, then the private airlines can not compete with the state run airline,
right now affairs of PIA are really bad, PPP and others made recruitments without any plan, I spoke with one of PIA desk workers, he said his salary was so low that he had no choice but to do a little hera phairee, said handnt gotten increment in from many many years and wont be getting one any time soon,
its a viscous cycle, Pakistanis need jobs too but to sustain jobs, organisation has to be profitable
