The Pakistan Army said on Thursday that it had recovered five abducted foreign hostages from terrorists in an operation.

An Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement today said the hostages included a Canadian, his American wife, and their three children. The hostages were recovered "through an intelligence-based operation by Pakistani troops."

"They were captured by terrorists from Afghanistan in 2012 and kept as hostages there," the ISPR handout said.

"United States (US) intelligence agencies had been tracking them and shared their shifting across to Pakistan on Oct 11, 2017, through the Kurram Agency border."

The operation was conducted by the army "based on actionable intelligence from US authorities."

The recovered hostages "are being repatriated to their country of origin," the ISPR said.

"The success [of the operation] underscores the importance of timely intelligence sharing and Pakistan's continued commitment towards fighting this menace [of terrorism] through cooperation between two forces against a common enemy," the handout said.

The operation was conducted by the army "based on actionable intelligence from US authorities."

The recovered hostages "are being repatriated to their country of origin," the ISPR said.

Although the names of the recovered hostages have not been revealed by the army's media wing, they are believed to be Joshua Boyle and Caitlin Coleman, who were kidnapped in Afghanistan in 2012 while on a backpacking trip.

Coleman, 31, was pregnant at the time of abduction. A video released by the Taliban last year showed the kidnapped American-Canadian family, including two young boys who were born into captivity as the family was held by the Haqqani network.

Earlier, two senior Taliban figures based in Afghanistan told Reuters by telephone that the video had been uploaded by the militant group who are fighting to topple the US-backed government in Kabul.

One claimed the video came from the Haqqani network — a close affiliate of the Afghan Taliban — and it had been delivered to both US and Canadian officials before being posted on YouTube.

"The success [of the operation] underscores the importance of timely intelligence sharing and Pakistan's continued commitment towards fighting this menace [of terroriism] through cooperation between two forces against a common enemy," the ISPR handout said.

its amazing tht the missing persons in pakistan get 'missing' because their own will and never recovered but pakistan army recovers foreign hostages from afghnistan.

That is the job of the incompetent Pak police. You can't truly expect Pak army to run after every kidnap ransom case? This is more in line with international terrorism and was supported with American intelligence.

Cute babies. Perhaps 2 were born in captivity. What the hell they were doing in an active war zone (Afghanistan) ?

hahaha this is amazing

its a job of pakistan police now?

here recovering hostages from afghanistan is not afghan police job?

Exactly.... It isn't Pak police job

its amazing tht the missing persons in pakistan get 'missing' because their own will and never recovered
... however this is Pak police job

Is Pak army now conducting operations in Afghanistan?

I think so. The leader of one of these terrorist outfits was shot dead outside the NDS office in Afghanistan earlier on this week.

Is Pak army now conducting operations in Afghanistan?

Maybe, but in this case they were tracked by US intelligence and information was shared on their movements leading to their interception at the border by the Pak Army.

It seems the Americans are finally learning to 'do more'

RAWALPINDI:
The Pakistan Army on Thursday recovered five foreign hostages who were kidnapped in Afghanistan in 2012, said a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The hostages, including a Canadian, his US national wife and their three children, were rescued from the captivity of terrorists. The foreign nationals were captured in Afghanistan by terrorists, added the ISPR.

According to details, the US intelligence services had been tracking the movement of the hostages and informed their Pakistani partners when the hostages were moved across the Pak-Afghan border into Kurram agency on October 11.

The operation by Pakistani forces, based on actionable intelligence by US authorities, successfully recovered the hostages. “All hostages are recovered safe and sound and are being repatriated to the country of their origin,” said ISPR.

The Army further said that the successful execution of the hostage-rescue operation underscores the importance of timely intelligence sharing and Pakistan’s continued commitment towards fighting this menace through cooperation between two forces against a common enemy.

Pakistani soldiers have freed a North American family of five who were being held hostage by the Afghan Taliban, Pakistan's military says.

They were rescued during an operation in Kurram tribal district near the Afghan border, the army said.

It did not name the family, but Canadian Joshua Boyle and his US wife Caitlan Coleman were kidnapped while backpacking in Afghanistan in 2012.

They are known to have had children while in captivity.

"Pak Army recovered five Western hostages including one Canadian, his US national wife and their three children from terrorist custody," an army statement said.

It is. Get red warrens issued and put the names in Interpol. That's Pak Police's job to get a name in Interpol. The Interpol is then handed over to Afghan Police.

What type of foolish people would go to Afghanistan for a backpacking trip?

Very job well done... I hope many animals who keep innocent civilians and kids hostage are killed and rot in he'll
