USSR "collapsed" because its largest constituent Russia saw no need to continue with USSR. I dont think Al Bunjab has come to the same conclusion. Yet.

Then why is Russia hell bent on creating new USSR?? Attack on Crimea, Ukraine, control over CIS countries? Be it democratic government/autocrats/oligopoly they may be able to have absolute control on everything from people to place but economy is something that can not be controlled. It always slips out if not treaded carefully.

Russia only wants Greater Russia-Ukraine, Belarus- at most Kazakhstan. As you can see it has never molested the three Batic republics (which were culturally more Pol/Swe/Ger than Russia) or the Central Asian stans, which belong to the Islamic world.
