First state-level new energy R&D center set up in military barracks

Officially approved by the National Energy Administration, the New Energy Access Equipment and Technology Research Institute held the ground-breaking ceremony on January 4 on the Canglong Island of the Jiangxia District of Wuhan City. It is the first state-level new energy R&D testing center set up in military barracks.

China's renewable energy industry sees fast development. However, a weak basic research on the core technology of new energy network access, a heavy dependence on import of key technologies and equipment as well as a deficiency in industrialization have become major bottlenecks for new energy development.

The New Energy Access Equipment Research Institute, jointly founded by the Naval Engineering University and the Daqo Group of Jiangsu Province, was headed by Ma Weiming, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor from the Naval Engineering University. The institute will introduce a series of achievements of comprehensive electric power technology into the new energy field.

It will establish four major R & D testing platforms including wind power generation converting system, solar photovoltaic power generation system, large capacity inertia energy storage system and new energy power access control and management system, in a bid to promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements into new energy production, ensure the sustainable development of the new energy industry, and finally break the technology blockade and monopoly of foreign countries.
