I don't get it - if what you say is true then how come the biggest trading partner is India? was it RAW that perhaps kidnapped your officials and forced them to sign deals with India?

Because decisions related to economic ties will be decided by business friendly officials in Colombo, not by nationalists…….

But in case of elections then nationalists important to maintain election wins…..

Mate, All Sri Lankans are not nationalists, but nationalist parties like NFF, JHU are part of this government…. Like I earlier said nationalists important to maintain election wins…..

Mate, the main concern to me is this kind of interviews by our president to media will affect the vote base of his party (I am supporter of ruling party, in the long term my business interests will be affected if the ruling party suffers setbacks in future elections)

To me without thinking the vote base, issuing this kind of statements not good.

Sri Lankan nationalists will never vote for a person if he is seen as friendlier to India.

As far as I know major project India about to handle is "Sampur" coal power plant and oil exploration in Mannar basing. Chinese are involved in many projects, sometimes I do wondering why SL government is giving too much projects to China. I heard government is going to give permanent houses for Chinese around their coal power plant ect. There are thousands of Chinese workers in SL projects.

Sri Lankans love Japanese vehicles here, they're refusing both Indian and Chinese vehicles mostly. If you consider heavy vehicles it's Indian TATA and Lanka Ashok Leyland.

Airtel isn't that much famous, people has given a nick to Airtel, "Hulan tel". That means "Empty Tel" coz of the coverage is less. Popular mobile provider in SL is "Dialog", I think it's a Malaysian. Then Etisalat and Sri Lanka Mobitel. ( Decent mobile numbers starts from +9477XXXXXXX )

I think number 1 trading partner is USA. And Yes, India is one of our top trading partners.

The no. of Srilankans that I've met - the ones that came to my college in India to study, the one's that work in Indian companies after completing their studies and a few I met here in US didn't seem to be the kind of nationalist you are portraying here.

We've no problem with our relations with China but many would be concerned if it came at the expense of India.

Your President has clarified that it first goes to India and if India rejects it goes to China. Plus China understands that India is the first priority!

It's nice that China is understanding and sympathetic towards Sri Lanka's geo-political problems.

India is a very manipulative and cunning bully, while they cannot get bigger nuclear-armed countries like China and Pakistan under thumb, our smaller neighbors have to face the worst brunt of Indian oppression.

For Sri Lanka, there are few options other than keeping India appeased and hope that India doesn't fund LTTE-like terrorism in their country in exchange.

I personally hope that our Sri Lankan friends adopt the Swiss model of resistance - being a small country does not mean your dignity or sovereignty is any less valuable than a bigger country's. Switzerland makes military training mandatory, all able-bodied people undergo military training and can, if the need arises, assemble a large army consisting of most of their population.

They can talk to much larger nations on equal terms. Sweden adopted this approach when they faced aggression and threats from Soviet Russia - they presented such a deadly and difficult needle to step on, that the Soviets never dared to try. To Sri Lanka's credit, when India tried to step on Sri Lanka by sending over paramilitary units, those units had to run back to their homes quiet soon after as well.
