LAHORE (Web Desk) - Preparation for the first phase of Saturday s local government elections in Punjab and Sindh provinces has entered final stage.

Required election material including ballot boxes and ballot papers has been transported to the officials concerned while Army troops have been called in by the civil administration to maintain law and order in sensitive districts.

"Army troops have been called in by Civil Administration for maintenance of law and order ONLY during upcoming LG elections in sensitive districts," the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed in a press release on Thursday.

The ISPR further stated: "troops will assist law enforcement agencies when and where required. However conduct of elections will remain the responsibility of ECP."

Opposition parties including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Jamat-e-Islami (JI) had demanded deployment of Army personnel during local body elections.

In the first phase, polling will be held tomorrow in Punjab s Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujrat, Chakwal, Bhakkar, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, Pakpattan, Okara, Lodhran, Vehari and Bahawalnagar districts.

In Sindh, polling will be held in Sukkur, Khairpur, Ghotki, Larkana, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kashmore and Qamber districts.

Separately, the ECP issued Code of Conduct for Media.

The statement says that neither any radio of television channel shall broadcast or telecast nor any print media shall publish anything that adversely affects the public opinion against a particular party or candidate.

The print and electronic media have been asked to refrain from disseminating information about any political party or candidate which is not supported by cogent evidence.

“Due care shall also be exercised by them (print/electronic media) to ascertain veracity of any information or news relating to a candidate before its telecasting, broadcasting or publish,” the commission said.

The print and electronic media have been directed to show authentic election results officially issued by the presiding officer, returning officer of the election commission.

The directives were issued by the ECP in exercise of its powers under Article 218 (3) and Punjab Local Governments (Conduct of Elections) Rules, 2013 and other power enabling it in that behalf.

The polling will begin at 7:30 AM and continue till 5:30 PM without any interruption.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has conditionally allowed media to air unofficial results of Local Bodies (LB) elections.

Justice Farrukh Irfan Khan of LHC issued the interim order after hearing two identical petitions on Friday.

The court directed the media to air the unofficial results after an hour of the end of polling. The TV anchorpersons should clearly mention that the results are unofficial and can be changed and avoid sensationalism.

The court, in its remarks, further says that media plays a role of watchdog, therefore, unnecessary restrictions cannot be imposed on it.

As expected

PML-N winning from Punjab
PPP winning from Sindh

Seems like people are tired of PTI followers abusive language, hate speech and wrong classification of Patwari and Non Patwariasm.

In 2013, I pushed all my family to go and vote for PTI and this time I was no longer fan of PTI due to their irritating dharna's, useless campaigns and wasting a lot of time in not-so-serious affairs, focusing less on more important matters so my family asked me what my opinion is, I said use your brain and if I was in Pakistan I wouldn't have voted for PTI. No idea whom they voted for

Results are as expected.

Sindh and Baluchistan have never been on pti priority list.

Punjab urban centers and kpk are the only regions what matters to pti and IK.
And in punjab, its always pmln who wins.

So only kpk is left, where juif , JI , anp ,plmn also take a sizeable portion of seats along with PTI.

You're right we are living in a country of angels, we have many options available to choose other than PTI. Options that are more honest and even more clean than PTI in Pakistan.

If you expect to get an angel out of a country of thieves than sorry it ain't happening.. IK is the only option since he was not brought up in Pakistan and didn't become a politician from the very start like other Experienced Politician of ours..

Keep hoping for a drop of clean water from a sea of blood.

Totally useless exercise . Wasted billion of rupees . No power is given to elected members both in Punjab and Sindh . Even if u won u couldn't do anything for people .

Nobody is angel... It is the wrong mentality of my PTI friends

Imran Khan is clean because he was brought up abroad? Well first of all he spent almost entire life within Pakistan and besides studying abroad for a short period he was always affiliated with Pakistan. But this mentality of foreign-man angel and local bad is very dangerous for Pakistan so I would not go in that debate

BTW, Q League won in my local constituency today. In general elections 2013, PTI lost both National and Provincial assembly seats by close margin in my constituency... National seat was won by Parvez Ellahi and provincial by the member of PML-N.

Now PTI could only grab 35 votes from my local constituency clearly indicating the change of mind of people in my area. It could also be due to always-making-wrong-decision-of-candidates for my constituency like we often hear countless candidate errors/blunders by PTI from many areas. Edit...
