First operation success to Trophy/Windbreaker APS

On 12 November 2009, Ph.D. Vladimir Korenkov, who led Russian state unitary enterprise “Basalt” from 2000 to 2009, stated that “The Israeli system of active protection of tanks, “Trophy”, as any other similar systems, can be evaded”. One of the activities of this enterprise was to develop rocket-propelled grenades, designed to destroy modern armament. The rocket-propelled grenade RPG-30, according to Vladimir Korenkov, is designed to overcome these tank defense systems. "All the existing active protection systems in the world share the same idea. This is a radar homing at some distance, close or far, to destroy the target with a warhead that creates fragment stream and explosive field. These systems have common flaws. First of all, the duty cycle, i.e. the time interval of the system response to the threat. RPG-30 easily defeats such a protection system. There is a smaller diameter precursor round in addition to the main round. This precursor acts as a false target spoofing the APS into engaging it and allowing the main round (following the precursor after a slight delay) a clear path to the target, while the APS is stuck in the 0.2 - 0.4 second delay needed to start its next engagement. This time interval is sufficient for defeating the Israeli system", said Vladimir Korenkov.

Tandem charges have many applications. Raed my post again. The charges (rpg-29 this case) follow exactly the same trajectory. The APS fires a controlled blast against the first one, but it cannot hit the latter. Atleast russian launchers are designed this way.

That would be the real test challenge for Trophy. I don't think that engineers at Rafael are amateurs, there are several essential technologies, radar ability to identify and track the threats, provide computer with information to classifies the threats and prepare engagement plan, the environment is dynamic therefore the system computer is constantly updated and if needed plan is modified. Interceptor coming from cartridge which after activation replaced with new one by reloading mechanism, the time it take to reload is the most important issue regarding several threats coming from same direction, but it is of course classified and for a good reason, have to be in milliseconds and not 0.2-0.4 sec.
How can Vladimir Korenkov know what are the time intervals of trophy? they build RPG-30 in notion to defeat APS, but they never tested it against APS because they have none! Trophy APS tested against wide spectrum of RPG ATM HEAT threats, over 700 live fire tests performed on platforms installed with Trophy.

A post of bla bla bla without even knowing the subject. How can they know the intervals? It's not difficult if you are an expert in the area... And come from the country wich invented APS back in the 70s and the only one to proceed with the system. And whats that nosense of "no APS to test them"? russian tanks, as contrary to these experimental garb**e carry APS, ERA and countermeasures as a norm since the 70s, all of them. Throphy: designed to kill obsolete RPGs from Gaza kids roughly comparable to a 70s Drozd in performance. Israel strong!!!

Don't know if you are auth"st or something. Rpg made for destroying modern tanks with modern defenses, ERA (none on West anyway) or APS (even less)

The only one known APS currently operational is the Trophy protecting Israeli Merkava 4. Please do tell what is the current Russian APS and on which platforms it installed?
In order to claim that it can defeat Trophy they should had tested it on Trophy period! Trophy designed to counter and was tested against all know ATGM RPG HEAT

I have no doubt they can reprogram Trophy to ignore the decoy (leading warhead) or shorten the cycling interval. Then you'll have to counter with radar jammers or they will speed up the rocket or multiple decoys or randomly choosing if the decoy leads/trials. The game goes on. If it can survive a missile volley from an attack helicopter, I will be very impressed. No matter what, it's better than nothing.

Indeed, this is part of evolution, in fact it is the evolution, to counter the counter :)

Drozd was operational since the 70s
It was introduced in 1983 on little number of old T-55 tanks and scrapped few years later.

were it was succesfully tested against exactly the same threat the trophy is designed for: outdated rpg-7s.
Trophy is designed against all types of HEAT rounds from all directions. Drozd protected only the frontal arc.

T-55 were never scrapped but modernized and most kept for reserve (Russian army has several thousands of operational units currently)
T-55 with Drozd were scrapped.

Thropy does not protect against modern launchers, BTW, because they use tandem warheads. Israely doctrine is not against them anyway.
Trophy is designed especially against tandem warheads. Simle RPGs are not a threat to Merkava.

Late 70s until 80s: Drozd on t-55, t-80, bmp-3. Upgraded for 360 coverage, deployed in Afghanistan. 80s-now: Arena system: replaced Drozd, in t-55 and t-80. Most t-55s and all t-80
Are equipped with APS as of now. You know jack sh#t and I won't waste my time and explain you how it works.

No, the leading rocket has the same trajectory and signature as the second one. And it's not just a decoy, but a acumulative warhead. There will be an impact anyway.
