ISLAMABAD - Petroleum Ministry reiterated that first flow of Iranian gas would be possible in Pakistan by December 2014, as work on Iran-Pakistan gas Pipeline has been accelerated to meet the plan considering ever soaring energy crisis of the country.
Pakistan is committed to meet the details of deal and we have accelerated work on the project so it is believed that right after two and half years first flow of gas would reach in Pakistan, Zafar Qadir, spokesman of Petroleum Ministry said this while talking to TheNation and added that consultancy, feasibility, design, rout survey and hiring if contractor would take twelve months and construction work would take further 18 months to make possible the first flow of Iranian gas to Pakistan.
In a query over delayed progress on work, Zafar Qadir was of the view that this multi-billion dollar pipeline project would meet the emerging energy demands of the country by providing 750mmcfd (million cubic feet of gas per day) to Pakistan for the next 25 years.
According to the proposed plan, the gas will be supplied from the South Pars field. The initial capacity of the pipeline will be 22 billion cubic meters of natural gas per annum, which are expected to rise to 55 billion cubic meters and expected to cost $7.4 billion.
Islamabad has intensified work on the multi-billion dollar pipeline project, which is due to bring Irans gas to Pakistan, sources said, adding, Work on Iran-Pak Gas Pipeline is quickly progressing and National Engineering Services Pakistan (Nespak) signed an agreement with a ILF Consulting Engineers a German company to conduct feasibility study and detailed engineering designs of pipelines, also survey and to place the pipeline.
