Prime Minister David Cameron believes that if ever Britain were to have an Indian-origin Prime Minister, he or she would be from the Conservative Party.
“We were the first party to havea woman Prime Minister [Margaret Thatcher], we were the first party in [Benjamin] Disraeli to have a Jewish Prime Minister and when I look at the talent behind me I think we are going to be the first party to have a British Indian Prime Minister,” he boasted speaking at the launch of the Conservative Friends of India here.
Mr. Cameron praised the British Indian community for its contribution to its adopted country and said the Indians had the same values — strong family ties, sense of community and enterprise — as the Conservative Party.
“Shared values”
“The values that you bring are our shared values,'' he said, adding, “There are so many British Indians who had put in hard work to make Britain whatit is today.”
Addressing a hall packed with Indian immigrants — men in boring suits, women in designersaris and dresses — Mr. Cameronadmitted that the Conservativeshad not done enough to cultivate the Indian community.
“For too long, we just presumedthat they would join us on the basis of shared values, but we need to do more to bring them in,” he said.
The Conservative Friends of India — the brainchild of the Indian-origin peer Lord Dolar Popat — had his and his party's “100 per cent backing,” he declared describing it as the “start of a beautiful relationship.”
He said he was “proud” of his party's Indian-origin MPs and hoped that their numbers would grow in the coming years.
Mr. Cameron said his government attached huge importance to Britain's relationship with India. It was already “incredibly strong” but he wanted to make it the “strongest-ever.”
He said people often tended to think that the Indian economy was just based on call centres. “Nothing could be farther from the truth. The Indian economy is there as a dynamo to the world economy,” he said.
Mr. Cameron flagged up terrorism as an area where the two countries could work more closely to fight it. Both had beenvictims of terror attacks and needed to “stand up to together” to combat them.

Sell us Rolce-Roye.

they may give her for free . women of British royal families have experience of 100s in life, Catherine herself had changed with over 10s in her life before William, with 100s on side/ casual also
British are mainly looking for a way which may defend them in future, due to rapidly changing power structure of the world. they are ready for anything which may help them have little respect in this world in future. among the BRICS, only Russia/ CHina/ India are supposed to be powerful nations like US in future. Russia/ CHina they can't get and India they can't afford to lose, no matter what what they will have to do for that, and can offer anything to Indians in return :meeting:

. .
Not surprising, given the large number of Indians working in the city. Indians are hard working and honest.

.
I would have believed if a labour leader had said that. Tory?? no chance..

What a turn around in 65 years!

I wish our freedom fighters were alive to see this day.We have really come a long way.

first, rishtey mein Indian Freedom Fighters were Grand Fathers of you all :agree:. they knew what will finally happen once India gets freedom. today, India has over 350mil middle class, more than total population of India in 1947, whose per capita income on PPP is similar to Very High HDI countries like Argentina, Poland, Malaysia then its because you got freedom in 1947. the day Mr Gandhi and his men equalized donkeys and horses, this day was set to come.:pop:

British first took out whatever wealth they could get from India, and then they started taking out Indian top skills to run their industries located in Britain and sell those British products in India itself to feed British workers to establish a flow of money from India to Britain, and also they took Indian brave people to fight for them in return of giving security to their personal life/ to their families. and at the same time they had many Thakurs, Jamindars, regional Kings/ Nawabs who used to take out blood of Indian poor and give it to British rule as taxes. see this madarchod Thakur (shammi kapoor) as below and see kaise iski phatati hai, when India got freedom in 1947, in between 2.40min to 5.0 min as below :meeting::

Most likely indeed, because the trade unionists who vote in the Labour Party leaders will vote in the someone who sucks up to them the most. As they carry 3 votes at party elections (I think it's 3), they are likely to out-vote the more pragmatic-minded members.

Though now he has said this, it would be funny and ironic if it that future PM turns out to be of Pakistani-descent. Banter!

Little bit more to it than that I thought? Having India helped, as it opened up trade sources and routes, but industrialisation in Britain itself shouldn't be ignored. We didn't become rish SOLELY because of India. But this is an academic point more than anything else, not trying to stir anything. Peace.

no you did not. UK got rich cuz of colonialism and aggression against peaceful countries. perhaps can atleast apologies for a certain massacre in 1919.

The day Britain renders an apology for those acts would truly be a turning point in the global arena for new partnerships and not just for India-UK relations. cheers

It will be discussed some other time how Britain became rich but few ‘bottom line’ facts we have as below: :pop:

=> first get to know where Britain stood till 15th century as below:

Not much was written about poverty in the Middle Ages. The poor were not considered important. Much more was written about the rich and powerful.
However in the Middle Ages poverty was common. England was basically a subsistence economy where each village made most of the things it needed and most of the population were subsistence farmers. They grew as much food as their families needed (if they were lucky).Surprisingly, perhaps, examining Medieval skeletons shows that most people had an adequate diet, except in times of famine :pop:.

However life must have been very hard for the disabled. There were many disabled beggars in Medieval towns.

The Church tried to help the poor. The Church taught that it was a Christian duty to give to the poor. In monasteries a monk called an almoner gave alms to the poor. However in the Middle Ages fearful poverty was an inescapable part of life.
Things did improve after the Black Death of 1348-49. In England about one third of the population died. Afterwards there was a shortage of workers so wages rose. In the 15th century wage labourers were better off then in the 13th century :agree:.

A History of Poverty
=> where India stood till 18th century as below: :pop:
In the 18th century, Mughals were replaced by the Maratha Empire in much of India, Maratha rule expanded to almost 2.8 million km². While the other small regional states who were mostly late Mughal tributary states such as the Nawabs in the north and the Nizam in south India remained. Tax administration system in India was collected by officers of the Maratha empire, however, the Mughal tax administration system was left largely intact. By this time India again had the largest economy in the world, with a (27.3%) share of world GDP, followed by Manchu China and Western Europe.[9] Nevertheless, a devastating famine broke out in the eastern coast in early 1770s killing 5 per cent of the national population.[10]

India was one of the richest countries till the time of British rule in the early 17th Century. Christopher Columbus, attracted by India's wealth, had come looking for a sea route to India when he discovered America by mistake.

=> and, we have a response from Mr Gandhi to British rule as below:

Gandhi, after returning to India inspired people to boycott British goods and refuse earthy possessions. This movement was known as Swaraj and was economically significant because Indian home industries were virtually destructed by British industrialists. He advocated renewal of native Indian industries and began to use a spinning wheel as a token of return to simple village life.

In fact Mr Gandhi didn’t want India to follow British laws also . As below:
The boycott of British goods by Mahatma Gandhi known as the swadeshi policy—the boycott of foreign-made goods, especially British goods. Linked to this was his advocacy that khadi (homespun cloth) be worn by all Indians instead of British-made textiles. Gandhi exhorted Indian men and women, rich or poor, to spend time each day spinning khadi in support of the independence movement.[3] In addition to boycotting British products, Gandhi urged the people to boycott British educational institutions and law courts, to resign from government employment, and to forsake British titles and honours.

=> and after freedom in 1947, now total number of Indian middle class whose per capita income on PPP is more than $15,000 is over 350mil, more than total population of India in 1947. it is similar to the countries like Argentina, Poland, Malaysia of Very High HDI

Now Labor party of Britain is again worried for the salaries of British workers, to keep feeding them

We read too many things in books of primary schools but forget all till the age of even 20 also. How cruel those Jamindars, regional Kings/ Nawabs used to be while taking taxes (Lagaan) from the common poor of India and give it to their British lords/ British rule can be seen from one of the most popular Indian movie, LAGAAN, which was also nominated for Oscar.

See this movie in between 4.20min to 6.20min to have an idea of how British ruled India.

And double Lagaan (tax) charged to poor farmers if one of those madarchod regional hindu king doesn’t eat meat in between 20.30min to 22.30min.

what consequence the happens to common poor for paying Lagaan (tax) to Britain during the time of 'poor rain', in between 30.20min to 32.35min :hitwall:

and see how men of ‘British Queen’ got worried if they could lose tax (Lagaan) for even one year also for few villages, in between 1:19:40 to 1:21:30

I remember, I was very young that time when few used to say in villages that even Mr Gandhi and Mr Ambedkar might not have imagined that a time may come when donkeys and goats will also drink on the same well where only Lions are allowed but that day has finally came, see in the movie Ghulami (salvage) in between 7.40min to 8.10min as below. (too many movies like this, we may check.....) :coffee:
