Why would some people on this thread wants to frame this as China vs USA or China issue at all?
I agree, it has little to do with China but more to do PH's anger toward the US -- culminated over the decades of bad treatment, loss of sovereignty, proxy status, and misery.
People make it a China vs. US thing because US policy toward the PH has been largely related to containing China. So, anything that happens to US-PH relations affects China in one way or another.
China happens to be the largest regional public goods provider. Even with that, China is itself a developing nation; is not and cannot be in the position of "saving private Ryans" in an angelic fashion.
Duterte is welcome because of his solid ground logic and businessmindedness.
China can handle the US with or without the PH on its side.
