I am not a fan of Castro OR Communism.. but its really stupid and hysterical that the US still has trade embargo on Cuba. I went there two years ago and Cubans are some of the nicest folks around and many have families in the US. I went to the a resort which unfortunately doesn't speak about the REAL Cuba which has suffered tremendously because of the Trade Embargo, there really is no excuse for this stupidity.

Trade is a privilege, not a right. Trade is a right only to the extent that I have the right to propose trade, not the right to impose trade. Any more than that and any such trade 'agreement' is immoral. That said...The US trade embargo does not mean the US Navy is holding a blockade around Cuba. Other countries are free to trade with Cuba in defiance of US wishes if they want. One such defiance is Canada...

So where did all the money go? People argue for Cuba with the deceptive reasoning that unless the US open trade, Cuba will continue to suffer, implying that trade with the US is some inherent right. It is not. The fact that Cuba can trade with all those countries clearly show that trade is truly a privilege and that trade with a large consumer nation like the US offer a country the quickest path to economic prosperity. Nothing more. So the woes for Cuba should righly be laid at the feet of the Castro brothers and communism. Not US.

I agree with you on one point!! Yes trade is a privilege and the US has the right to trade whether it wants to or not.

Nonetheless its still very hypocritical to ban goods to a small island because of a dictator while the US supports other dictators and military government establishments around the world. You don't want to trade with Communists? Stop trading with China or Russia. Maybe sometimes the US needs to stop acting like a Bully. Cuba is closest to the US just a couple of hundred miles away from the Coast and has Every reason to trade with the US, it has nothing to do with the former soviet union now. Mr. Gambit, you've probably been brought up to hate Cubans, maybe you should visit Cuba once in a while and see what an awesome place it is with some of the most nicest folks around. Plus much of trade to Cuba is mostly food/agriculture related i don't see how there is any harm in that.

Surely its affecting many businesses within the United States for people who do want to trade with Cuba.

Would you nonetheless kindly explain just why exactly does the US still have a trade embargo on Cuba and what purpose does it serve?

Does the US simply want nothing to do with Cuba or is simply not interested?

The rationality, or irrationality, of the US trade embargo on Cuba is not the issue, which is the question: 'Is the US trade embargo on Cuba the cause of Cuba's economic miseries?' The answer as I have proven is 'Not'. The US is not the cause of Cuba's economic chronic depression. It is a rather lame attempt to deflect attention away from that flawed argument by implying that I hate Cubans. The US trade embargo on Cuba is just an intellectually dishonest but convenient rhetorical club to wield over America's head. My feelings about Cuba has nothing to do with this discussion although I do enjoy eating Cuban sandwiches from Ybor City.
