JAKARTA - Indonesia as the host of the FIBA World Cup 2023 will hold a trial by holding an international team match next July. "This is in preparation for the main
event itself. Later, when the stadium is completed and ready to use, the committee plans to hold a
test event. The concept has already matured. Ideally, we invite clubs from neighboring countries," said the Chairman of the FIBA 2023 World Cup Committee, Budisatrio Djiwandono, quoted on the official website of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Wednesday (18/1).
He explained that the trial was carried out to ensure the readiness of the FIBA World Cup 2023 from various elements, such as administration, transportation, accommodation, to the competition arena. "The goal is to test the readiness of the committee, immigration entry matters, and the logistics flow of airport pick-up can all be prepared," continued Budi.
The FIBA World Cup 2023 will be held on August 25 in three Asian countries, namely the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia. The Indonesian government built the Indoor Multifunction Stadium (IMS), a multifunctional arena with a capacity of 16,250 spectators for the basketball world cup in the Gelora Karno area. IMS was built in April 2021 and is targeted for completion in June 2023.
Until now, the FIBA World Cup 2023 committee has been formed and has been working since seven months ago. However, Budi explained that there are still several stages that need to be passed, both related to the alignment of regulations by the government, cross-ministerial coordination to prepare for competitions outside the field, and supervision from FIBA related to the construction of arena facilities.
