The Pakistan Army expects to enhance its counter insurgency capabilities in Waziristan following the introduction of new rotorcraft expected this April.

According to Major General Khalil Dar, the general officer commanding of Pakistan’s Army Aviation (PAA) branch, new high performance helicopters entering service will enhance the army’s ability to conduct all-weather, day and night operations in North Waziristan in the east of the country, and other remote and mountainous areas. Speaking at the recent IQPC International Military Helicopter conference in London held in early February, Gen. Dar thanked Airbus Helicopters for its fleet of H-125M Fennec armed reconnaissance helicopters, eight of which will enter service in April.

According to official specifications, these helicopters have the capability to fly in excess of 10000 feet (3166 metres) altitude, and will work with the army’s Bell AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters; twelve of which have been ordered by the PAA, the first three of which will be delivered by the end of this year. Pakistan ordered the first three helicopters in August 2015, and placed an additional order for nine helicopters in April 2016.

Open sources note that the AH-1Z aircraft will be equipped with General Electric T-700-GE-401C turboshafts, Northrop Grumman H-1 Technical Refresh Mission computers, Lockheed Martin AN/AAQ-30 targeting systems, Rockwell Collins AN/ARC-210 629F-23 Ultra High Frequency/Very High Frequency (30 megahertz to three gigahertz) communications, Honeywell H-764 Global Positioning/Inertial Navigation Systems, Thales Optimised Top Owl helmet-mounted display, BAE Systems APX-117A identification friend or foe equipment, Orbital ATK AN/AAR-47 missile warning systems, BAE Systems AN/ALE-47 Countermeasure Dispenser Sets, Northrop Grumman AN/APR-39C(V)2 radar warning receivers, and General Dynamics’ M-197 20mm gun systems. Moreover, the contract covers the procurement of 1000 Lockheed Martin AGM-114R Hellfire-II missiles, plus parts, training and logistics support. These aircraft are being procured via two contracts, the first of which was issued in August 2015 to cover three AH-1Zs procured for $58 million, with a second contract in April 2016 for nine aircraft at an estimated $170.2 million, giving an average unit price of circa $19 million per aircraft.

Both the AH-1Z and H-125M helicopters will replace the current PAA combat teams of Bell AH-1S Cobras and Bell 412EP light utility helicopters that are restricted to operating at less than 8000ft (2435m). The H-125Ms, sources tell asianmilitaryreview.com are expected to be operational by the end of this year, with the AH-1Zs following by the end of 2018.

need more Ah-z1 and Mil-35 to tackle Terrorists at Afghan Border
this role will be taken by UCAV in the future and Attack Helo will be used as a last resort because attack helo is considered as a tool of war and this is a low level low intensity conflict.

We do see Pakistani Armed drones in Action much, plus with ISIS gaining ground in Afghanistan i doubt it will remain a low intensity conflict for too long , we need heavy Fire-Power to support our front line troops .. we already lost too many troops in cross border attacks .

I have been advocating going into afghanistan since the last terrorist attacks look at my signature. However the way you go about it will have to be thought of carefully and drones will play a bigger role than attack helo's. Attack helos will be used if the threat is far too imminent and near or on the border. you have to remember these helo need time to be serviced and repaired which is quite costly. As for border troops they need more equipment like ground surveillance radars and better firepower to overcome these attacks.

I agree with your post but one part i don't We should not go into Afghanistan ... cross border strikes is ok, but we must not invade Afghanistan and stay there

let me explain. What I am trying to say is we need something like a PMC (militia/death squad) that will fight for Pakistan. as an example we have a huge number of trained ex-amy people who can fight without being officially linked to Pakistan. In Syria Turkish militia is backed by Turkish armed forces seizing a buffer zone to keep isis away from Turkish border. Or like Russia has done recently as well and US UK have been doing for a long time.

we have to do something like this or else keep picking up bodies of another 100K people.

we cant do it because many people in Pakistan keep soft corner for Afghans , and than there is Muslim Ummah factor, to create a death Squad like this you have to be ruthless and become animal , does not care if there are civilian deaths , we can not do what you are proposing

Bro like I said either do something or keep being terrorised and keep burying people. those who keep soft corner for afghans are merely excrement at the soul of the shoe. Now ummah is at war unfortunately and afghans consider Pakistan as their enemy if you feed them enough dollars or indian rupee and some hookers in foreign embassies. Syria where GCC with their western allies ransacked a country pillaged it like a horde that is when Ummah truly died.
Death squad is a not the right path but having a safe buffer is now a must! need to talk to all parties that are with Pakistan to diminish anti Pakistan forces.

Bottom line is your enemy will never hesitate, it does not follow rules or take laws into consideration when it plans attacks against you. either fight or surrender that is where things are headed unfortunately.
