ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Jan, 2019 ) :Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi has said the federal government had a plan to set up water treatment plants around the Karachi Port and the treated waterwould be supplied to the industry.

A big water treatment plant and many small ones would be installed under a phased programme by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, which would help control dumping of industrial refuse in the sea, he said talking in an inclusive interview with a private news channel.

He said the economic package announced by the federal government in the supplementary finance bill would promote the culture of industrialization in the country and bring more foreign investment that would ultimately boost the national economy and create more jobopportunities.

The minister said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government was working a plan to connect the Karachi Port and Port Qasim through a 40-kilometre corridor, which would enhance their capacities to smoothen handling of cargo ships and avoid choking situation on both the ports, besides meeting the country's future requirements.

A large number of national and international companies had shown their interest to invest in such projects and consultations were going on regarding the expansion of Karachi Port, he added.

There would be no need to seek financial assistance from the federal government as many foreign investors were waiting for a go-ahead to bid for the projects, he added.

He said the government wanted to make legislation on public issues in the parliament while it was only possible with the cooperation of opposition.

Responding to another question, he said the government was taking steps to further strengthen the national economy, besides ensuring the basic facilities of life to the people at their doorsteps.

To a qurey, he said the Gwadar Port was the future of Pakistan and the China Pakistan Economic Corridor would be a game-changer for the entire region.

If they can stop water ending up into the sea and build reservoirs in Sindh. That is one hurdle solved.
if they stop water going into the sea, then sea invasion will cause the land to become unsuitable for agriculture. indus delta will get destroyed, and along with it the livelihood of the fishermen. who told you that stopping river water from falling into the sea was a bad idea?

I am talking about building more water reservoir before the water ends up in the sea. Drinking water is scarce. Is there any study that saline water will destroy entire Indus delta? Indus Delta is Huge!!!

old news, even more valid today because nothing has been done

another alarming thing is this;

About 1,850 million square meters of the deltaic region used to be covered with mangroves but, according to a recent satellite survey, the mangrove forest has been reduced to 1000 square meters in a decade and degradation of mangroves is significant in Keti Bandar and Shah Bandar.

Far too much land is lost due to negligence.
