Dear Seniors

Falcons have been used from ancient times for hunting ,recon, and Battle field situational awareness

Advantages Low cost ,all natural ,easier to maintain just like K9 units

Disadvantages not any i can bring about to talk

We need them in PAF,PA,even in naval force along the coastal areas of Gawadar

whats your say

for reference see this the french forces have already deployed them

Cheers !!!!

There is no policy to use Animals for military use that puts the creatures in harm (OPPOSE that motion) , against religious and human ethics to use animals as arms

Drones can easily be tackled by Guns or other means (Correct approaches )

No reason to bring animals into conflicting world of humans

PS: This has nothing to do with Pakistan Airforce

Falcon is used as a Symbol , Symbolic purpose which shows the efficiency , dominance in Air and how it snatches enemies with brave stance. This why the word Falcon is associated with Pakistan Airforce.

The actual Falcon is never used nor I have ever hear any such idealogy to use an animal to tackle other armed machines (Drones etc as you have suggested)

As stated early not a proper ethical argument to use animals in such cases (no justification in religion nor on human level)

Not proper becasue the Military drone the animal can end up losing its leg or life when it hits propeller and also if the drone is armed and the animal causes it to immediately fall it may detonate the weapon.

Some international groups are involved in Un Ethical usage of animals to do the bidding for army , unless the animals does the act they are not fed food

So it is unethical practice to train animals to behave such way in return for food

Lot of simple solutions to handle small drones, anti aircraft guns etc

French army grooms eagles to down drones
MONT-DE-MARSAN, FRANCE:

Faced with the risk of drones being used to snoop or carry out attacks on French soil, the air force is showing its claws.
At Mont-de-Marsan in southwestern France a quartet of fearsome golden eagles is being trained to take out unmanned aircraft in mid-flight.

The roar of a departing Rafale fighter jet gives way to the buzz of a drone lifting into the air on a runway at the air base, some 130 kilometres (80 miles) south of Bordeaux.

Suddenly, a loud squawk fills the air as a beady-eyed eagle bears down at breakneck speed from a control tower 200 metres away.

In about 20 seconds the raptor has the drone between its talons, then pins it to the ground and covers it with its broad brown wings.

The drone has been destroyed: Mission accomplished for D’Artagnan.

The valiant bird is one of four feathered fighters — along with Athos, Porthos and Aramis, all characters in French novelist Alexandre Dumas’s “The Three Musketeers” — being put through their paces since mid-2016.

Mont-de-Marsan is one of five air bases in France to boast a falconry.

Usually, the birds of prey — generally falcons or northern goshawks — are kept to scare birds away from the runway to reduce the risk of accidents during takeoff or landing.

But with France on high alert after a string of terrorists assaults since January 2015, they are now sinking their beaks into national security.

Camcopters are one thing. I am not sure how effective these birds will be against even mid size serious army use drones. Pigeons yes, they can be effective against those!! BSF are you listening!! :P

If you are talking about small toy drones people use for making aerial videos that create public nuisance, yeah then is okay
But if you are proposing them for use against military drone..then I don't think it is possible..most of them fly at much higher altitudes then a falcon can reach and those high speed and quite heavy. But if those flying at low then falcon can cause them a serious damage but in the process we loose a precious bird and that's against the ethics and our religion too. There are a lot of other very effective and tested methods to destroy the drones, including ACGs, SAMs and A2A missile from an A/C or electronic warfare systems and lasers.

Good Luck, poor animals !

A much better way to use eagles and falcons for recon is to attach small cameras to their legs.. they can fly high and fast and hence can be used to monitor the skies above important installations or battle formations..
