RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s consul general in the US city of Houston appeared in an accountability court here on Monday as a witness and confirmed that fake Pakistani passports had been issued to Indian citizens.

Aqil Naeem told Judge Wamiq Javaid that the passports had been issued by the Houston consulate as alleged by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in its reference against former consul general Ghulam Rasool Baloch and others.

He said that cases of misappropriation had been mentioned in the report of the audit of the consulate’s financial record.

He said the record of all people who had submitted additional fees to obtain passports from the consulate was available. The court put off the hearing till Jan 19.

The foreign affairs ministry had referred to NAB on March 28, 2008, a report received from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation that about 300 passports had been issued by the consulate on fake or incomplete documents.

A reference was filed against Ghulam Rasool, Assistant Consul General Mohammad Naeem and travel agent Imran Lalpuri for issuing passports to Indian citizens Aziz Moosa, Salim Ali and Abdul Sadiqas Sultan Abdullah.

An American passport bearing the name Syed Nazar Ali was found after the 1993 terrorist attacks in Mumbai and investigations revealed that he was actually an Indian national, Aziz Moosa.

During investigation it was found that several fake passports had been issued from the consulate.

The former consul general’s lawyer S.A. Mehmood Sadozai argued that the prosecution had merely relied on information provided by the FBI and had not investigated the case.

Replying to a question by the court, NAB prosecutors said they had examined FBI officials but did not record their statements.

Unfortunately it is true and I am a witness to the whole case it happened late in 2007, and I also know the guy who had helped this Indian in getting the passport. The Pakistani guy who was working at a travel agency was contacted by this Indian guy who was wanted in some case, and he along with his counterpart in the embassy got the fake passport arranged for the Indian man. The man fortunately was caught at the airport, and that is where all of it came to light. I was going to the consulate regularly those days as I had to submit some papers for my national ID and also get my passport renewed. And we could see people from the FBI going in and out and also collection all the papers, and also I believe I was told by the gentleman that I was in touch with at the consulate that the FBI was looking in to the record of pretty much every one that had come and gone out of the consulate. Well I don’t blame them and it’s a good thing that the man was caught at least that bought all these f**k**g traitors to light.

Imran Lalpuri: The man who was working at the travel agency, and the reason I know him is that I twise bought my tickets through that agency.

Well guys, this is an open secret , its more or less same in manchester consulate. It has become an epic centre of corruption, you need pakistani passport, just pay £500 and you will get the passport within no time. From top to bottom everyone is involved.

The recently transfered consul general to Kenya (I have forgot his name) he was the worst among all.

This is what gonna happen when you have deputations on political basis not on seniority or capabilities.

When they come here, their first priority is to settle their families, they are least bothered about the image of Pakistan. Only Almighty can help us.
