Authorities fire fake doctor who has been in service for the past 16 years during which he worked with various leading organisations
Patna: Authorities in Bihar have fired a doctor after he was found to have performed over 14,000 sterilisation surgeries despite possessing a fake medical degree.

The fake doctor has been in service for the past 16 years during which he worked with various leading organisations.

Dr Girijanand Prasad was removed from his post Sunday after the document accessed through the Right to Information (RTI) Act revealed he was using the medical registration number of some other doctor to run his medical practice. The accused doctor was currently posted with Marie Stopes India recognised by the Bihar State Health Society, formed under the Department of Health, government of Bihar, to improve health facilities in the state.

“We have removed the doctor from the job with immediate effect and also formed a committee to investigate his fake medical degree and certificate,” an official of Marie Stopes India, Vipin Kumar told the media on Sunday, adding that legal action would be taken against him once they got the probe report.

As per the document accessed under the RTI, the said doctor mentions his medical registration number as 22,492 which had been allotted to some other doctor. “The said registration number as cited by the so-called medical practitioner, as such, been allotted to Dr Pandey Sudhir Kumar. This means his certificate is fake,” remarked Indian Medical Council’s senior vice-president Dr Sunil Kumar Singh. He added no doctors could use his colleague’s registration number to run his medical practice.
The doctor who hails from southern Bihar’s Aurangabad district is said to have performed over 14,000 sterilisation surgeries during his stint with various organisations in the past over a decade.

Reports of doctors allegedly possessing fake medical degrees or certificates, have routinely hit the headlines in Bihar.

Alarmed at the prevailing state of affairs, an Indian parliamentarian Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav has launched a drive against fake doctors and quacks in the state, blaming them for deaths of innocent people in the illegal private clinics flourishing in the country side. Yadav who was declared elected on Rashtriya Janata Dal ticket has been expelled by the party for his anti-party activities.

Yadav launched a massive agitation in Bihar soon after getting elected from northern Bihar’s Madhepura Lok Sabha seat in April-May 2014 general elections. He defeated another mighty backward leader and ruling Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav.

“Fake doctors and quacks operating in the rural parts of the state are playing with the life of the common, poor people and I can’t be a silent spectator to all these happenings,” Yadav said adding people had shown deep trust by electing him and he could not disappoint them.

Last year, Yadav even handed over a list of some 27 fake private clinics and nursing homes operating in his parliamentary constituency to the then Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and also urged the chief minister to crack down on such fake doctors across the state.

“There is total chaos in the medical field as the common man has got caught in the cobwebs of fake doctors, fake pathological centers and brokers,” Yadav mentioned in his letter to the chief minister, adding “just everyone associated with the medical field wants to rob off the common man”.

He also held a “People’s Court” in his parliamentary constituency to seek people’s opinions about how to take on doctors “overcharging” the common man. Earlier, he had fixed a “rate chart” of consultation for the medical practitioners and various pathological tests operating in his Lok Sabha constituency, drawing strong protests from the medical fraternity.

how should we judge this??

has he botched up any operation?? what about those doctors with "real degrees" who participate in illegal kidney transplants, female foeticides, hushing up "honor killings" and the entire point of the indian medical system being a paid system where the doctors, either forced to by the system or happily, demand money to save the life of someone even with serious ailment... there was the case[1] in 2012 in jalandhar city of a days-old girl suffering from breathing trouble and being removed from the necessary incubator machine because her parents were unable to pay the government hospital two hundred rupees... the baby girl died in the hospital...
"I tried to seek help from the people. But no one lent me Rs 200. I begged the hospital staff to keep the baby in machine and promised to pay the money as soon I manage to arrange it. But, they did not move," he said. "They killed my daughter," said Sanjeev Kumar.
He alleged that the hospital guards pushed him out of the premises when his daughter died. "We were pushed out of the hospital after the death of my daughter since we raised the issue of negligence," he said.
Sanjeev's wife Anita, 30, said that the hospital did not provide them an ambulance to carry the body to Santokhpura locality where the family resides. "I walked about five km with the body at 1.30 am on Thursday and reached home at 4 am," she said.
Anita, however, said that the condition of the baby worsened after 8 am on Wednesday when the hospital staff administered some injection to her. The baby refused feed since then. "I requested the staff to keep her on the life support, they refused," she said.

The preliminary investigation meanwhile indicated tampering in the hospital record. "There was over writing. But it is premature to ascertain if the death was due to negligence," said an officer.

Well saids. I wonder who gave doctor degrees in ancient times, it was always about observation and experiments.

correct.

After 14000 surgeries, he is not exactly a fake doctor now.
May be more sufficient and quick hands as compared to the genuine ones. Once in Sialkot a fake surgeon performs free surgeries on charity basis in a mobile hospital specially appendix. He becomes quite famous so the villagers inform nazim to honor him when he next visited the village they forcibly take him to the nazim and demand small hospital named after him but nazim recognize him as his class fellow a school dropout.

Why should people expect doctors having a different attitude than the society they live in ??

What I want to suggest is do some homework before putting your thoughts...!!

Doctors’ offices hold an uncomplicated allure for MBA students. The health-care industry has been good to students of business, handing out consistently reliable job offers and among the highest raises of any profession, according to a survey by the Graduate Management Admissions Council. One in every 20 B-School graduates goes into health care, according to GMAC.

That trend does not sit well with some medical practitioners. “Physicians may have their faults and problems, but every one of us swore an oath at some point that we would put your interests as patients ahead of everything else,” says Roy Poses, a professor of medicine at Brown University’s Alpert Medical School, adding that executives tend to put revenue first. “If I have to work as a physician for managers like that, they may push me to do what will make them a lot more money fast, even if this would be useless, or even harmful to you as a patient.”

now while the rest of the material you posted in this post points to the inadequacies in the indian medical system i don't know why you made the above comment... please explain in simple words.

yes, the doctors and the nursing staff are over-burdened in india because there are lesser number of hospitals in india compared to the patient population.

now, if the medical education system had been made free ( presently it is pricey and complicated to get into ) and the useless and resultless info. tech. and lot of engineering college courses shut down, there would be many students in medical learning which would not burden those medical staff already working and would be so beneficial to the citizens.

yes, the quoted medical practitioner is correct... the mba idiots look at patients as a source of money rather than a human who needs to be treated and saved.

there is a barber shop i always go to and my regular barber was young man from bihar whose mother was suffering from a cancer... even a government hospital treatment for cancer takes lot of money and unnecessary troubles... some months ago i came know that this barber had gone to his town in bihar because his mother had taken very ill... a few days ago i asked the barber shop owner ( who also does good haircut ) about this young man and his mother... he said the mother had died soon after the young man went to bihar.

the lady died for want of money... i don't see justice in this.

another crime that the mba types do is create the economic situation where farmers and others suicide in india... "sks microfinance"[1] company ( microfinance is a stupid idea ) is infamous for these kind of cases...
Another SKS debt collector told a delinquent borrower to drown herself in a pond if she wanted her loan waived. The next day, she did. She left behind four children.

One agent blocked a woman from bringing her young son, weak with diarrhea, to the hospital, demanding payment first. Other borrowers, who could not get any new loans until she paid, told her that if she wanted to die, they would bring her pesticide. An SKS staff member was there when she drank the poison. She survived.

all these mba colleges must be shut down and some mba's arrested to make a example to the world.
