Facts and Reality about Angoor Adda Border Crossing.

After the news of Pak Army handing over of refurbished Angoor Adda border crossing came out, lots of speculations and statement were made but without even knowing the facts and geography of the area. This has prompted me to start a separate thread to inform members here whats the on ground situation, its Past, Present and Probable future.

Past:
The Angoor Ada in South Waziristan was a third border crossing just like Chaman and Torkham and served a link between Paktika and South Waziristan. Pakistan and Afghanistan had their set up on their own respective side. This crossing got closed aftermath of military operation in the area.

Present:

Pak Army in bid to uplift the area and increase the bilateral trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan, had convinced the Ahmed Zai Wazir Tribe to let FWO build a road passing through their area and going till Angoor Adda Border crossing. This road is now known as Tank-Wana-Angoor Adda road. Due to this road now fruits and vegetables from area reaches Tank and D.I.Khan in matter of hours. Previously lots of Fruits and Vegetable would be lost on way as previously the same journey use to take more than 24 hours. Gomal Zam Dam was also constructed near the same road and this Dam has virtually revolutionized the agriculture sector in the area.

After improved security situation we not only developed our side but also Afghan side (we were actually doing this in Afghan area and that too without any permission from Kabul). Now this border crossing has been opened and the Afghanistan side has been handed over to them so that they shud also start the formal process of movement of people and cargo. One of the main reasons for this crossing to become operational again was to facilitate the returning back of Tribesmen who has crossed over to Afghanistan due to operation Rah-e-Nijat, they would not have to go all the way to Torkham or Chaman border crossing now. To facilitate trade the Tank-Wana-Angoor Adda road was constructed by Pak Army for same reason. Its just a Border Crossing Facility on Afghanistan side which was handed over to Afghan authorities, not any Pakistani area. Map below might give you a good insight.

Future:

Angoor Adda border crossing was envisaged to further boost trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Also it would provide cushion to Chaman and Torkham border crossing and help decrease load from them to facilitate smooth flow of People and Cargo. If utilised is true spirit then it would surely increase the trade activities in the area and would help uplift the lives of the people on both sides of the border.

So far we have heard "sources" say the Afghan said has demanded 10km of territory. @shah1398 do you know whether this demand was actually made and is the reason of the closure of the crossing?

Well they can demand anything but not all demands are acceptables we will reject it

I really can not comment on that as Afghanistan actually is disputing even the existence of Durand Line as a border between the two countries and claims Pukhtoon belt of KPK as far as Attock as their own territory. Thats why we had seen Greater Pukhtoonistan's posters from then ruling ANP's side all over Peshawar, on behest of Karzai. But ofcourse they cudnt press for that further as their leadership had to flee and keep residing in Islamabad and Dubai, rather than Peshawar. Main point is that Afghanistan would actually be claiming the whole belt rather than just 10 km. Also as per unverified reports Pakistan Army had established check posts along Pak-Afghan border as deep as 15 km inside Afghan territory, mainly to keep check on infiltrators. Afghanistan has tried alot to push Pak Army back but in vain.

Sir, reminds me a day during Musharaf era. Though I am not his fan or supporter but he was rightly dealing with Geo so currently we need something like that or more to live in peace and harmony. The Geo tola will never miss a chance to act anti-pak.
