Palace on Wheels is a super-luxury train service in India that offers guests a once-in-a-lifetime experience of royal hospitality. The deluxe train travels across two states — Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh - halting at places of historical importance on the way. During its eight-day journey, it takes tourists from the capital New Delhi to Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bharatpur and Agra, and back. Palace on Wheels was voted one of the best trains in the world in Conde Nast Traveller's Readers' Travel Awards 2015.
Managed by Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation, the train started operating in 1982.
The deluxe saloon coaches were sourced from the personal collections of the former princely states in Rajputana. Each coach is named after the state it came from.
The saloons highlight the cultural ethos of the states they represent — from furnishings to furniture and paintings. Each saloon has four cabins, a mini pantry, and a lounge.
