Facing weak market share, Ford to exit Japan, Indonesia this year

That is why i referred to his & other specialists' role in transforming China's auto industry. In the end , these are not Japanese companies, but Chinese first and foremost.

Ultimately is it really wrong for Japanese chief engineers to be in the employ of Chinese companies? Did not Japanese auto industry gain much needed critical information during the early period of our own auto industry -- and borrowed from Ford, and other european auto makers? So what is wrong with imparting knowledge and sharing experience?

We do this already in the academic field where research is published and shared to impart on the wider body of knowledge.

I suppose the same applies in auto industry.

Why does it even cross your mind that there could be something wrong with somebody from one country working for a company in another country?

I believe he designed some American company cars too.

You are being humble my friend, it's a respectable trait I appreciate that!

What's that Nissan car in the pic? Looks awesome!

There is nothing wrong with it, but you're trying to make it seem , or trying to undermine Chinese Haval's success by linking it to a Japanese engineer. You were trying to imply it, Peter.

Anyways, of course there is nothing wrong about working for company a, b,c,d, et al. Japan is vested heavily in China, so is it a surprise to see Chinese and Japanese professionals working with each other? No, of course not.

Its natural.

The Nissan Teana, bro ! Jointly produced by Nissan and Dongfeng ! :)

I could give you an intelligent reply but I'm going to take a chapter out of Chinese-Dragon's book of how to give obnoxious answers by stating his #1 stock reply when I say something like you said above.

"I have no idea why you think the above since I never stated anything like that. If that is the inference you make from what I posted well that is your interpretation and not mine"

Peter,

The imply and the intent was there, even if you don't want to admit it.

Oh, I never said I wont admit it..I'm just stating every time I pose the same type of question as you do I get the standard brickwall completely obnoxious " who me I didn't say that...it is you who must be crazy " stock answer from some of the Chinese crew here.

But you have my respect...so I will acknowledge your point. But not for Haval itself but for their intent to challenge the Landcruiser with the Haval H9 by hiring a chief Toyota engineer to give them a good boost.

Ford these day don't make good cars, there are only 3 Ford I would ever buy if I am to buy a car today. (Not counting supercar)

Mustang - For its pedigree
Mondeo/Falcon - For its sportiness
Focus - For General purpose

If I have money, Ford GT would be on par with any Ferrari, Lotus and Porsche grade supercar.

Problem for ford is that they don't focus enough on everyday mobile. Mustang and Mondeo is a large sedan which have v8 or v6 engine in it, otherwise known as gas guzzler. Focus is the only sensible car that were remotely into "economy" sections. Ford would have sell well to country where gas price is not a concern (such as US or Australia) and not really good for people's market where gas is essentially very expensive, which are where usually Asian market is.

Still, even traditional V8 market have seems to be fallen too due to the high oil price in last 2 years, and it would be quite hopeful that the low gas price would revive the V8 in US and Australia. So, unless ford make some change, they need to bring back Escort (Which is a blend between Sport Saloon and Economic Hatch) especially Escort Cosworth which would be able to complete with even VW Polo. Also Ford should really focus on Fusion and Taraus which they can offer both v6 and Straight 6 with lower engine capacity like 2.6 or even 2 litre.

On the Chinese Auto Market. I always think Chinese did it wrong by importing people to work for them from overseas. You don't get a "boost" by doing stuff like that, unless you have a domestic talent pool to back it up, do some sort of idea exchange. Problem is, the domestic market in China were flooded with Foreign co-op and Foreign senior engineer. It won't work simply because one they those people are gonna leave for a better job. Then they would have been left with a design/management gap would one day come back and bite them.

They should have try to send Chinese engineer aboard, not the other way around, with China buying up foreign company, they should be actually take this advantage and send engineer to learn from them, not hiring people from the outside.

I believe the Ford Focus was the best selling car in China in 2014 (actually I think 2013 and 2012 also)

I was never a Ford fan. Never owned one.

As for China importing people vs training abroad...well they can always change tactics to suit their whims.

So ? He is a former engineer at Toyota, he is now currently an engineer for Haval. Besides, his working for Haval is not the reason for the company's success, which is due in part to the Marketing , design, and mechanical engineering sectors. Its a collaborative framework , which illustrates the wealth of cooperation between Japan and China --- systems-wide. .

Even if it was single-handedly due to the involvement of the Japanese engineer, well, that would make me even prouder as a sign of a concrete result of bilateral cooperation at the business level.

So, no insult and plenty of pride taken...

Absolutely bro, the Japanese specialists that are hired provide a role in finding the objective for the company, and including some essential characteristics found in Japanese auto industry that may do well to boost productivity and or design of the organization (Chinese auto industry a, b,c et al). Ultimately these specialists impart some wisdom, however, the overall responsibility and engine of growth will be the Chinese design engineers, Chinese marketing specialists, who have the mandate to utilize Japanese data / experience to transform the company in respect to the Chinese auto market.

Exactly, China's companies, especially those in the various fields of engineering, have a lot to learn from Japan's already established know-how and brain power. This is nothing to feel bad about. I know China also regularly tests and adopts Singaporean and Korean public management models. That's interregional dynamic.

Japan secures its hold in the Chinese market through creative partnerships with Chinese auto industry. And that illustrates the depth of our two nations' relationship. I suppose cooperation is a theme that transcends politics; its just trans-national ! lol.

I wish to see deeper cooperation to challenge the dominant position of the joint ventures of US companies.

Let's hope that particular Japanese engineer had a 99.99% stake in the success of the savage beauty mentioned below.

Caradvice, Australian Media Authority: How Dare Haval H9 Call Itself An All-Terrain SUV?
Category: Enterprise News 2016-02-24
On February 19, 2016, with the opening of the 5th Exclusive Store of Haval in Brisbane, Australia, the unstoppable expansion of Haval arouses the interest of dozens of Australian authoritative automotive media in evaluating Haval vehicles by test drive.

Recently, Caradvice, one of the automobile media authorities in Australia, made the evaluation of Haval H9 after test drive, focusing on its all-terrain control system. What is a so-called “all-terrain vehicle”? It refers to vehicle which is able to run on any terrain where other ordinary vehicles cannot, and this is just what Haval H9 calls itself, an all-terrain SUV. But what gives it the strength to make it fit?

Source of Strength No.1: All-Terrain Control System, Unlimited Driving

The article said, the all-terrain control system can be called one of the highlights of Haval H9. With the independent research and development by Great Wall Motors, the function of the all-terrain control system is of the same control performance compared with the “Terrain Response System” on Land Rover or all-terrain control system on JEEP. This terrain control system supports 6 different driving modes, including AUTO, sports, sand, snow, mud, 4L (4WD Low-range) which can be switched according to specific road conditions to achieve great trafficability based on the set parameters.

Source of Strength No.2: Separate Frame Construction + Off-Road Suspension, Better Technique

H9 applies the separate frame construction which is widely used on off-road vehicles, not only to ensure the car body with a higher structural strength, but also to make the ground clearance and maximum fording depth of H9 reach 206mm and 700mm respectively. There are also 28-degrees of approach angle and 23-degrees of departure angle separately. . To some extent, the inherent advantage of separate frame construction ensures good trafficability and excellent corrugation absorption on bumpy roads. That’s why the driving experience brought by the solid chassis of H9 is unforgettable.

The H9 rides on fairly sophisticated double wishbone suspension at the front and multi-link suspension at the rear. This kind of suspension combination can be described as the classic structure used on off-road SUVs, like Toyota PRADO and LAND CRUISER. Besides, the article is also positive with the suspension, saying that double wishbone independent front suspension provides a better ground adherence, greater lateral stiffness, excellent anti-roll performance, better gripping performance and clear steering while the rear suspension applies the five-link non-independent suspension so that the wheels will run in a more reliable way and the stability and comfort during accelerating and braking will be improved.

Source of Strength No.3: HDC+HAC and with Outdoor Integrated Display, Multi-layer protection

HDC is applied to all series of Haval H9 and you’d better not underestimate this function, because it will drive the car at a uniform speed once on the downhill. In the meantime, the driver has to do nothing but hold the steering wheel. The greatest point of HDC lies in its intelligence. When you turn on HDC, only a bit of acceleration will release HDC automatically, and once you stop acceleration, it will function again.

To start HAC, 3 conditions shall be met: 1. The gear lever shall not be in the P position and the accelerating pedal should not be pushed; 2 The vehicle shall be in a static state; 3. The handbrake is not pulled up. When the driver’s foot moves away from the braking pedal, HAC will get start. Though the handbrake is not used, the vehicle will not slip down on the hill and will be in the static state for a few seconds. With the help of HAC, the driver is able to move his/her foot from the braking pedal onto the accelerating pedal easily and it avoids the inconvenience and problems when using the handbrake to make a hill start. Besides, HAC will also function when reversing on a hill.

People should avoid getting lost or being unaware of the surroundings when off-roading, otherwise, they might be in a panic even with a map in their hand. The article said, another off-road property highlight of Haval H9 is the Outdoor Integrated Display applied to all series, which shows the real-time air pressures, elevations, pitch and roll angles, direction of the road you’re driving on. A bit like a Pajero. Although it’s only a tiny function, it will be very helpful when driving off-road and we can tell that Haval H9 is very hard on details. Consequently, it is with such great techniques that make Haval H9 full of confidence.

Since its launch in October 2015, Haval brand has won the praise of both the Australian media and consumers. With its handsome appearance and excellent performance, the Haval brand has been gradually getting consumers’ interest, and is expected to exhibit a better performance.

Again, as I said, Ford Focus would probably the only logical one to choose if petrol is costing above 1$ per litre

But then again, me too am not a Ford fans.......I am no Eric Bana

First of all, I would not claim 6.5 out of 10 is being "Won the praise" or even claiming anything other than mediocre. In fact, you are quoting a high end of review and try to say we Australian like this, but did you actually look at more authority review such as Car Guide, NRMA, Carsale.com.au? Instead springing me up with a review on "Caradvice"? which is virtually never heard of (as much as the brand) in Australian Market?

Here are more sensible review of Haval H9

2016 Haval H9 LUX Review | Family-Friendly, But In Need Of A Good Diesel

Haval H9 2016: Video Review - motoring.com.au

The Motorsport Magazine give it 2.5 stars out of 5.

While Haval has received plenty of attention for its pricing, it is simply true that your dollar buys more up-spec features in the Haval than in any other heavy-duty SUV on offer. The interior surprises for its quality leather, feature list and overall fitout.

But, arguably, buyers will be looking for more than this in a heavy-duty 4X4 wagon.

There is no question that until a diesel version joins the range, the H9 will remain something of an also-ran in the large SUV class. Australia’s love of towing a boat, caravan, or pair of dirt bikes makes the 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder H9 look underdone compared to the torque-laden opposition.

And why, in this segment, we can only rate it at 2.5 stars.

Motoring (partnership with carsale.com.au) call it "Not too great for the challenge, but great for money and have potential"

by the way, the reference you quote is directly form Havel website.

They have basically chopped and cut the caradvice piece to pieces to spin it on them

Original reference on Caradvice article

2016 Haval H9 Review | CarAdvice

in fact, that dude at CarAdvice have said he would not buy a H9 given the choice there are. But it was a car that would not turn your nose up (slang for you will not look down at it.) hence it is another word, mediocre......

And given the massive level of competition out there, would you really drop $50K on a relative unknown? We wouldn’t, no. But the story here is the same as with the H8 — Haval as a brand has nothing but upside, and the H9 shows that this Chinese contender is nothing to turn your nose up at.
