This is not true. YAK-38 along with Soviet SST both were copied/inspired from the British.
I remember my first ever Farnborough Air Show ( think it was 1963 or 1964) Where I came across the prototype P-115 (?) subsequently called Harrier. Yak -38 was not even on the drawing board yet. Also Concorde and TSR2. The Harrier and I think also Concord prototype flew. TSR2 was only on a static display. TSR2 was somethin like F-111 and later cancelled by the Labour government. All the later STOVL designs have Harrier roots.
