Between F35 and F22 the cost comparison ratio is 1.23 and a capability ratio is 2.8.Also both aircraft costing about the same over the 2011-2018 time frame.

Some advantages of F22 on F35 are

1)F-22A carries twice as many Air-to-Air missiles as the F-35A

2)In combat, the F-22A is flown at almost twice the altitude and twice the speed of the F-35A. This increases the range of the F-22A's Air-to-Air missiles by almost 40 percent, increasing lethality, while it doubles the range of guided bombs like the JDAM.

3)The higher speed of the F-22A vs the F-35A allows it to control twice the area, when targets are mobile and time sensitive. In such situations, a single F-22A can do the same work as two F-35As.

4)F-22A is much more lethal than the F-35A. It is also much more survivable than the F-35A.

5)F-22A provides around three times more capability than the F-35A, yet costs only around 23% more per unit.

6)F-22 is currently in production, yet the planned Initial Operational Capability for the F-35A is 2013 and this is at the Block 3 configuration level, with the prospect of further schedule slippages with commensurate increases in cost.

1) How often do u need more than 4 AA missiles? - Once in 100 years.
2) Both have over 15 km ceiling. Max speed is 1.6 mach and 2 mach.
3) F-22 makes less than 1/4 of route is supercruise mode, thats gives only 10-15% in time response advantage. And combat radius of F-22 is even smaller. Ability to detect, classify, identify, target mobile targets of F-22 is very poor compare to F-35.

Many of F-35's electronics and systems have been taken directly from F-22 Program, many of them downgraded yet superior. Till date the only superior electronics and systems are on board F-22 yet F-35 comes second, to keep the program with-in affordable costs F-35 is not meant to surpass F-22 because there would be no reason for F-22 to Exist..

F-22 is not left desert barren it would be updated over the years, essentially F-35 is the right platform to further test systems in US for US Air Force and transfer the technology and systems to F-22 as a part of modernization. Both have similar technology AESA radars. Because of bigger size F-22's rdar has more modules however (1500 vs 1200).

if we load 1 t of weapons and 3 t of fuel on each jet here what we get 1.34 and 1.06 power/weight ratio. 26% more.

Both have different roles. F-22 does have classified system onboard. Absurd to compare both or else US would have dumped 187 F-22s for F-35s and put them to the certain specified role. The End there is no need for Ifs and +/-

And isn't F-35 meant to be multi-role? I mean yes F-22 is superior to F-35 when it comes to air battles but this is not the only thing F-35 is meant to do.

With 5th generation aircraft starting to poliferate (China, Russia, and India). Countries will consider consider it a national security priority to have a similar ability. Though they may not have them in the numbers that they would like.
