MPA, accomplices booked for murder
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MPA Shoaib Idrees and 10 others were booked on charges of killing a man and injuring two others over collection of extortion.
Submitting an application to the Khurrianwala police, Paras Bibi, mother of Noor Muhammad, a man allegedly shot dead by the cousin of MPA Idrees and accomplices, said her son had gone to see his friend, Afzal, on Friday. Both were near Khurrianwala Chowk after withdrawing cash from a bank when the accused in two vehicles, one bearing an MPA number plate, stopped near Afzals car and opened fire on them. She said the two were critically injured and first shifted to Khurrianwala Hospital and then referred to DHQ Hospital, Faisalabad, due to their condition where doctors pronounced Noor dead.
Paras Bibi claimed after becoming MPA Idrees had started taking extortion from public transporters and vendors. On July 17, the MPAs men allegedly shot injured three transporters who had refused to pay extortion. After the incident, locals had blocked traffic on Khurrianwala Road for over five hours and staged a sit-in.
Noor and Afzal had addressed the gathering against the MPA over his extortion demands.
She alleged the MPA had at that moment asked his men Abu Bakar, Zaheer, Zakarya and others to take care of the two and that he would handle the situation. The protesters demanded registration of a case against the MPA and his men over the shooting. However, the police asked the victims Faheem, Shehzad and Mubashir to exclude the MPAs name from the application. When the victims refused, the police and the lawmaker had allegedly pressurised them and forced to reconcile, the woman said.
On Friday, MPAs men had killed Noor and injured Afzal and another man. Demonstrations broke out again after the incident and locals demanded registration of a case against the MPA.
The Khurrianwala police booked MPA Idrees and his men Abu Bakar, Zakarya, Asif, Ali Hasan, Abdul Razzaq, Abdul Hayee, Anas, Zaheer, Nadeem and Naveed under sections 109, 148, 149, 302 and 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
