i agree sir, but it will be a gradual process, India has seen some terrible years in growth and has come down to 4.4%, Modi is kind of liberal in terms of his policy, we expect him to open up the market. In couple of years you would see a new policiesThe argument is now becoming circular. All I'm saying is that India should at least be as liberal as Bangladesh when it comes to this bilateral trade if we are really talking about equal opportunities. If there are duties imposed by the state level, the central government should make concessions by reducing the central level tariffs.
Every country uses protectionlism, India is doing currently because our industry are in dire need . But mind you, protectionism is like anti-competition, which is bad for the country, these will fade away in a couple of years anyways. These are policies which change every 2-4 yearsAnyway, there's also a lot to blame our own policy makers. If the Indian government is using the protectionist policies why can't we? Now that we are not dependent on aids, there's no such balance of payment issues then why abide by the hard fisted conditions of IMF?

About the state vs centre, currently that isnt possible. But we are moving away from that system, next year we might see GST (goods and service tax) where there is similar tax all over the country under GST

That's strange because the trade policies remained the same even when India had economic growth of 7-8%. I don't think Modi would change such policies because they are mainly controlled by the bureaucrats who remain unchanged regardless of the change of political leadership. If Modi really take the efforts to change such policies, it would be highly appreciated.
AFAIK central level taxes are next to negligible, anyways the taxes a bangladeshi exports pay, Indian manufactures too pay so they are evenI didn't say anything like state vs center, I said the central government should remove the central level taxes for Bangladeshi products as a concession for the state level taxes because of the incentives enjoyed Indian products in Bangladesh.
don't get me wrong, i am not for protectionism in India also, i for a fact would like more open market because consumers are the one's who benefit and monopolistic pricing don't come into forceThat's double standard on your part, you are supporting supporting protectionism when India uses it but discouraging when I propose it for Bangladesh.
India has never opened up its market fully, it is suppose to be a step by step process, previous UPA govt failed to bring in open market policies, our banking system are still quite domestic

New Recruit
Yah,yah.Sure,sure...I think a major reason is that our business men are more interested to deal with Europe and USA than other Asian countries. Finding new market is necessary for the diversification of export destination. Markets in Latin America and Africa could also be promising destinations.
