On behalf of the United States Department of State, Secretary of State John Kerry approved a distribution contract signed in September between ArKay Beverages and Sonateb Parsian Ltd.

Export of beverages produced by U.S. corporations to Iran has been prohibited since the 1990s. The U.S. government now takes the position that the new license aims to empower the Iranian people as the Iranian government intensifies efforts to inhibit access to American goods.

The approval document, which came into effect last week, allows for the export and re-exports from the U.S to Iran of ArKay alcohol-free liquor, Alcohol free-beer, and ArKay alcohol-free whiskey flavored cola.

“Now ArKay beverages will be accessible to 100 million consumers in Iran,” said David Angel, Arkay’s vice president of sales. “This benefits everyone. We will export our soft drinks from the U.S. to Iran. This will create more jobs for American workers. This is a win-win situation.”

ArKay Beverages, headquartered in Melbourne, Florida, produces alcohol-free liquors, cocktails, and beers, and ArKay Whisky flavored cola.

Because it's such a freaking hassle to go to the gym everyday and eat healthy. So only a select few are willing to put in the effort to trade short term benefits (sleeping on the couch) for long term benefits (exercise everyday so you see the benefit in 2 years). It's the same wit everyday personal decisions. Why isn't everyone a doctor? Because while 90% of people would like to go out and have fun, only a few would be willing to study until late at night so they become a doctor in 10 years.

I don't have the exact data on hand now, but by 1979, 65% of Iran's food had to be imported. I remember reading somewhere that most of our meat was imported from USA. When the revolution occurred, our access to meat supply suddenly was cut off .

This is concerning. I don't mean that we should be self-sufficient in every single thing. But we should have the ABILITY to be self-sufficient and then import materials if we can utilize our human capital in better ways.

In terms of economic decisions, what works for Dubai won't work for Iran. In terms of area size, size of expatriates, political makeup, etc is vastly different than Iran that comparisons is generally unhelpful.
