The other sub got fire too but survived

A wall of water, 5 metres high and as much wide, helped protect the Sindhuratna, a submarine berthed seven feet from the burning Sindhurakshak in the naval dockyard. Fire brigade officers sprayed water from their fire hoses to create a jet fountain-like structure.

"Five jets of water were dedicated to dousing the Sindhurakshak's flames while another five were placed in such a way so as to create a water curtain to reduce the heat radiating from the Sindhurakshak to the other submarine," said P S Rahangdale, deputy chief fire officer.

"The water curtain was sustained for about two hours till the other submarine could be finally towed away. Because of this, we managed to save the Sindhuratna."

Fire officers said the flames on ordnance-loaded Sindhurakshak generated so much heat that a small fire started within minutes on the Sindhuratna.

After the explosion on the Sindhurakshak, a missile or a rocket was flung towards a service support base structure near the jetty. Inflammable waste in the structure caused a minor fire there too, they said.

"We were worried that the fire on the Sindhuratna would get stronger and it too would explode. It was a simultaneous operation to control both fires," said Rahangdale.

The fire brigade towed the Sindhuratna away after the small fire on it had been brought under control. This took the brigade over an hour. Dousing and cooling operations on the Sindhuratna lasted until the morning.

Yes that's what he was referring to. But reddit removed the original post because the guy could not prove his identity. So that's just bull crap probably written by one of the usual suspects. This is the original reddit thread. It's been removed.

RIP to the mariners and condolence to their families. Until the inquiry submits its full report it is going to be hard to pinpoint the cause. Saying that, if its the batteries, then this would be the second time that this has happened to this vessel and the other kilo class subs with the same batteries may need to be watched.

If the heavy torpedoes have detonated as it looks like or the klub missiles then I can't see her being brought back to service anytime soon, considering how superstitious mariners are it may not be a good idea. Just glad this happened while docked with its minimum ships complement abroad, losing 18 is terrible, but could have been much worse (though it may not seem so right now).

Being a sub-mariner take a special kind of person, and when this happens it effects all sub-mariners even those considered enemies. DDRH...

Something does not seem right with this fire, my 6th sense is telling me there is more to this than just a 'accident'

Once again, when it comes to India, you spout BS and take cheap shots.

The IN is by far the most professional and accomplished navy in the region and one of the most highly regarded in the world.

It's fucked, better to scrap it we just forked out for the refit over $80 million and now this! but loss of life is worse.

I still do not understand why we using Mumbai when it is so bloody congested!

On completion, the 9,000-acre facility will house a fullfledged airport, naval docking and landing facilities, a school, a hospital, training facilities and family accomodation for nearly 18,000 naval personnel. India's third Naval base after Mumbai and Vishakhapatnam, Karwar has immense strategic value.

With the Mumbai port increasingly becoming congested, the deep waters, natural cover and the strategic location on the Western coast to the south of Mumbai makes Karwar ideally positioned to handle Naval duties. A large number of India's warships and all of its Aircraft carriers are expected to be stationed here in future, sources said.

Karwar port can not come sooner
