TNN | Updated: Oct 7, 2016, 01.39 PM IST
AHMEDABAD: Security was put on high alert after sound of mysterious explosion was reported from near the Porbandar Naval Base in Saurashtra. However, the Navy said it's just firecrackers, not a blast at the naval base INS Sardar Patel at Porbander.
Senior police officials and defense sources said, "Guard at the Navy Communication Center heard a loud sound at 9 am on Friday which seemed like gun shots being fired. He immediately informed his superiors at the naval base who alerted Porbandar police instantly."
Top police officials said they have, till now, found nothing suspicious in or around the naval base. Polcie sources said currently a Rabari fair is on at Porbandar and Mangrol due which there is aheavy traffic on devotees passing from the road next to the Naval base. "There is a possibility that the sound may have come from bursting crackers by devotees or a vehicle tyre bursting."
Cops, however, said that no chance is being taken and a massive search operation is on at present. Defense sources also confirmed they are also verifying the source of the explosion sound.
