Today Pakistan Navy conducted Coastal Security Exercise"Tahaffuz-e-Sahil" at Ormara to check the efficacy of security mechanism in place at Jinnah Naval Base and associated infrastructure against any Maritime terrorist threat. Special Operations Forces (SOF), Pak Marines, Pakistan Navy Ships and Helicopters participated in the exercise.

Yes a high degree of professionalism and coordination was displayed by the various segments of PN, other Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and organizations so as to practice and boost the security of this important base of Pakistan Navy ,but this level is according to existing Navy and Marine assets.

Two key elements which Naval forces (including Marines) need desperately is
1.Amphibious Vehicles

Even Pak Navy donot have large support ships but still these are important to move around the coast .From 3 sides Gwadar & Ormara are surrounded by sea.These vehicles will multiply the force moveability.
Amphibious vehicles are viable on land as well as on Sea.

2.Gunship helicopters (Navy/Marine Dominated)
Sea kings did best job but marinee need Attack helicopters like Ah1Z.

Q: Naval Airbase at ormara is it workable?

Not at this time.
Somethings are "nice to have"....but it depends to the doctrine we have.
Attack helicopters have a specific role with the Marines and we arn't there yet.

Thank you ... but as we are raising 25,000 new Marines , maybe in future we can see a Helicopter Carriers before we even think about a A/C ..
the new EEZ we now own is pretty far from our Coast line, and we need some long range ship there to make sure its security .. a heli Carrier with few medium weight Frigate can work perfect there ..

Initially fennecs can be used for Marines and navy.

Mi-35s customized for Marines are also good option for them as they can carry troops and provide fire support.

Who says 25000 Marines. It's actually 2500.
