Featured Ex PN Chief Zafar Mehmood Abbasi highlighted PN modernization

A variant derived from Holland Class Ocean Going Patrol Vessel 3750 [link] or beefed up version of OPV-2600 [lnk] might be the next option for PN from Damen
Is this going to be an increase in littoral water presence of PN or are these going to be Ocean going vessels? If we know that we might be able to guess what the vessel will contain. PN may kit it out itself with multiple providers support plus indegenous armaments. So the end product maybe totally different.

Capable of ocean going and to perform general duties and task in EEZ .... but only two factor missing in these configurations of both ships i.e. weapon package and sensor suits ....... so variants based on these which will be fitted with inhouse weapon and sensor suit of PN choice same on the model of Yarmook class deal might be easy to acquire, otherwise If PN was interested to acquire Frigates then Sigma Class Frigates which are well proven and successful design already available for export from Damen but PN seems avoiding Sigma class

Therefore It is safe to assume PN is seeking something other then Frigate from Damen but after receiving 2,300 tonnes OPV-1900 from Damen these 2 design as suggested previously make sense if we exclude Sigma Class from our consideration.

So it seems these 8 ships from Damen would be basically tasked to perform duties in EEZ and other frigates would be tasked to perform duties well beyond EEZ of Pakistan ....

Arent they a bit too big for PN (6000Tons)? That would cost an arm and a leg. Would we not be looking at 3-4ktons range. However, let us see what transpires. We might ask them for a-baby version of this behemoth.

IIRC the PN didn't say it wants a 6,000+ ton (or any specific tonnage), it just said '6 more ships of larger tonnage.' So if they're talking to Damen, it could simply be 2,400+ ton OPVs based on the Yarmouk-series.

The PN doesn't need the SIGMA because it already has the MILGEM.

I think the CNS was referring to additional Damen OPVs, but there is one possible other road...Damen Crossover.

The Crossover is a larger design than the OPV, but it's offered in both commercial and military specifications. The commercial versions -- i.e., Crossover Security, Fast Security, and Amphibious are built on commercial standards (like the OPV-series).

So, in theory, if the PN wants large 4,000+ ton OPVs, it could order the Crossover Security.

this would be most logical and probable outcome .... but then a question arise why PN chose relatively smaller ships of the same design first but going for larger ship what extra capability PN want to add in yarmook Class design .... ???

Either case we are looking at an unprecedented boom in PN acquisition and may Allah azza-wa Jal make these plans come true. We need this to guard our supply lines and most importantly our off shore oil drilling facilities before we establish those.
Pak needs her own drilling ships like Turkey to search for her own wealth. And, they'll need tons of naval support for India definitely will try to be a spoiler....

I think it's probably to have enough space in the ship for AShW, ASW and AAW (i.e., VLS) modules. So, they'll buy and induct the ships as OPVs, but later on, add AShW/ASW/AAW so that the ships can offer a wartime role.

Do you see any possibility of Pakistan acquiring theLong Range Ocean Patrol (POLA) Class from Damen?https://www.damen.com/en/news/2020/...range_ocean_patrol_vessel_to_the_mexican_navy

I think based on the criteria the ex-CNS laid out, any Damen ship larger than the Yarmouk-class is a possibility, including POLA, Crossover, etc.

It'll ultimately depend on the PN's budget and CONOPS. If the PN's looking for large OPV then I think they'll want to retain max flexibility.

These ships will probably have the room for AShW, ASW and AAW, though the PN won't fit them to that extent until a few years down the line. If the design retains that space (e.g., POLA, Crossover and SIGMA), then it's a good bet.

The only real caveat with POLA and SIGMA is that they're built to naval specifications, whereas the Damen OPV and some Crossover lines use commercial spec. The latter should be lower-cost, so the PN may lean there.

It's worth recalling that Damen is one of those companies that frequently engages in offsets. This is why they have shipyards outside of Romania et. al.

So if the PN is contracting them another 6 ships, especially frigates (which would cost at least $2 billion USD), then some of that money will come back as FDI.

It could be a way to get Gwadar Shipyards moving. Now, if Damen-Gwadar becomes a thing, then do expect Damen to use that facility for other sales.
Well it depends. But if Pakistan is developing a ballistic missile which can be fired from surface vessel than we would be need a destroyer for that. In my opinion we are basically looking at this kind of thing. Only difference would be the missile would be in massive VLS in ship instead of a land version.

Simply Air Defence Frigate doesn't make sense.

Guys who are debating on what those six ships will be, are asking wrong question. Even if that ship is just slightly bigger version of Yarmook class, it doesn't matter. The real thing to focus on is as former CNS mentioned that Pakistan is developing a hypersonic ballistic missile which can be fired from ships as well as submarines. The real question is let say that hypersonic missile has range of 2000 KM than which ship we have which is big enough to carry and fire those ballistic missiles ?? And answer is until now is that we don't have any such ship. Which automatically raises the point that which kind of ship would be able to carry that kind of missile and right now in entire world only Type 55 Destroyer is said to have that capability. This also means Pakistan will go for destroyers as well as SSBN Submarines.

It depends on the size of the ballistic missile. It can be as compact as the SY-400 -- i.e., a variant of the CM400AKG. If the JF-17 can carry the CM400AKG, then the Type 054A/P could possibly carry the SY-400. This is the SY-400. It could potentially fit in an existing VLS -- the HQ-16 has a length of 5.2 m, the SY-400 a length of 5.1 m.

Anyways, a more general point, let's keep things relatively realistic based on the actual info available. Until the PN says so, the Type 055 -- or any true destroyer -- isn't on the cards.

If the CNS can clearly confirm to us that the Jinnah-class is separate from the 4 MILGEMs, then I am sure he'd clearly tell us a destroyer was on the cards.

There's no reason for him to be cryptic to the extent of continuing a point about the Yarmouk-class with a subtle comment about a destroyer the Chinese didn't even clear for export.

The (former) CNS Admiral Zafar Mehmood Abbasi reveals in his farewell address that the PN is procuring 4 MILGEM Ada corvettes from Turkey. Delivery timeline is between 2023-2025.
The key takeaway is that design and engineering technology transfer will take place and the FIFTH (5th) ship will be the Jinnah-class frigate and will be Pakistan's first 'indigenously designed' frigate.
So it will not be 3 Ada + 1 Jinnah.
It will be the full order of 4 Ada and the Jinnah class will be a seperate spinoff class derived from the Ada.

Other key takeaways:
  • PN has always operated with a maximum of 8-10 surface ships which causes severe operational problems and stretches the assetts to their limits
  • To rectify this, the fleet expansion plan envisions a 50-ship Navy with 20 'large' surface vessels
  • 4x Type 054A/P
  • 4X MILGEM ADA
  • 1x (for now) Jinnah-class (presently in design phase)
  • 2x Yarmook-class 2300 ton corvettes
  • 6x Yarmook-class variants with larger tonnage in contractual stage
  • 20x Indigenous gunboats by 2025
  • FAC(M) 4 - PNS Haibat to be commisioned by end of 2020
  • 'Submarine design and production capability being acquired to make PN from a submarine operating Navy to a submarine-builder's Navy'
  • 1x Yuan-class sub being acquired from China on gratis basis to enable smooth transition to Hangor class
  • Under PN Aviation Vision promulgated in Nov 2017, 2 ATR MPAs inducted, 1 ATR MPA will join fleet next year
  • 10x LRMPA (jets) are planned as replacement of P-3C. 'Commercial jet has been selected and will be retrofitted with avionics suite on ATR model'
  • Contract for first LRMPA has been signed
  • Contract for long range, high endurance UCAV with SATCOM capability has been signed
  • PN Marines envisioned as a division-size force by 2030
  • SSG(N) envisioned as a brigade-size force by 2023
  • Local development of ship-based long range anti-ship and land attack P-282 ballistic missile 'in the hypersonic domain'

All our new ships should have integrated full drone capabilities.

That list is LOVE

Bus aircraft carrier ki hi kami hai lol. Is there a viability in having a drone carrier? Have a squadron of drones similar to Boeing's Wingman drone. The drone carrier would also be cheaper to build and operate, and could also be considerably smaller in size.
