I Agree. Though it might sound like a bad move, but it isn't all that bad. Tomorrow's war will be mainly fought economically, cyber space, high tech equipments etc, the U.K and Europe doesn't face any immediate thread in our neighbourhood. Moreover there won't be any massive invasion/full scale war against Europe anytime soon, more like small flash point/conflicts which requires small special ops/soldiers intervention. So we should invest more in upgrading or equipments/hardwares/nuclear sub's/missiles systems/electronic and aerospace industry etc than on maintaining a large ground force which isn't needed at all this moment nor in future.

Nope,sry,the money will just go elsewhere.

I think it should be disbanded altogether,and more money spent for welfare.War is a thing of the past.

There needs to be a move towards a stronger navy and missile shield and decrease in number of troops. Maybe increase the reserves and decrease the army even more. The expense per troop will only rise with increasing technology.

In the 30's,our politicians(the socialists) cut drastically the defence budget,troops,they literally abandoned the army.... and said that there will be no conflicts in Europe.... guess what happened in 40's.

Same here,in 1938 when they saw what happenned to Chechoslovakia they panicked,suddenly they had huge amounts of money to equip the Army,they ran to France with a huge list of weapons to buy and build.But guess what ? Your country to was just awakening from its stupidity and most of what it had or could produce was strictly for internal use.A few planes and tanks were sent,to little,to late.So,in the end,we spared our money...........which were eventually taken anyway by invaders.

Now,i see the same circus happenning with my very own eyes,they've now decided after years of cuts to raise the Defence budget to 2% and stasrt a modernisation/aquisition program but you know how it is :"let's see what will buy first....let's decide,the money have to come in tranches,",etc,etc.....and so,time passes,and passes....
