I like Subhas Chandra Bose! If he had liberated India instead of Congress, the sub-continent would have still been united...........Gandhi could have also kept United India intact but Nehru's hardliner stance was the final nail in this portion of our history.

. . .
You swear at Gandhi? That's a bit disrespectful don't you think?
He is probably reffering to the Gandhi-Nehru family, not Mahatma Gandhi. He belonged to a different family, no ties with the current gandhis.........a common mistake.

India would have been thousand times better today without gandhi....

Oh, my bad! Gandhi is well respected on our side of the border too and all of our ancestors say that if Gandhi had not listened to Nehru, there would have been no need for separation.

Ya i agree...I respect Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose more than Mahatma Gandhi.I have respect for his thoughts more coz its more practical.I feel coz of Gandhi we got our freedom late and he had no respect for people like Bhagat Singh.

I don't agree. Partition might have been avoided for a few more years but we would have found ourselves even more fragmented. The basic premise that only religious divisions existed & that each religion would look after only its own was quite simply disastrous. No democracy could have ever been created & no progress on social reforms would have happened because religious conservatives would have had a stronger hold in both major communities. We would have had a dysfunctional state & no hope to changing it. While I disagree with the premise of the 2NT, partition has atleast given both our countries (mine more than yours) a chance to be normal.

This A##hole Gandhi n his ancestors have drown india... :hitwall:

Do you really think that you are worthy of passing such a comment on a man who did far more than you or I will ever do?

But at what cost, had we let the Japanese troops any deeper, we would suffered same fate as many Imperial Japanese puppet state.

That's actually a bit like saying "IF"......., no end to that. No one stopped anyone else from winning independence by other means, it's just that they always came up short. Almost all such comments end up suggesting that Gandhi should have supported "X" or "Y", acknowledging Gandhi's popularity when compared with anyone else. Not Gandhi's fault that he was by far the most popular & influential. Gandhi did it his way and I for one, hold him in tremendous respect.

I disagree, up till 1946, the Quaid was in favour of keeping with a united India and there was a lot of nostalgia in the people too. Our ancestors still reminisce about their homes in India and almost all families are divided on both sides, my grandfather's father and brothers couldn't make it past the border and now half of may family is somewhere in Nagpur. In such a case, people would not have opted for partition if they had been given hope of better treatment than what they received under the British.

Its just non violence vs violence. Both wanted freedom and given the size of united India, both routes should have given us freedom in 1947 or any other later year. The cost for it is high in violence in blood.

It is debatable that if had we won freedom by violence, partition would not have happened. Again that path does not fully authorize democracy. A china kinda state might have poped up IMO.
