HAEBANGIL SUMMER FORUM

START: Yanji, China on August 10th 2014

END: Beijing, China on August 21st, 2014

ELIGIBILITY: Journalists, South Korean citizens and Isreali citizens are not able to participate in this program. U.S. and Japanese citizens are permitted to participate in this program; however, certain restrictions currently remain in place. U.S. and Japanese citizens are unable to spend the night with homestay families at Mount Chilbo; they will spend the night a nearby hotel after having dinner together with the host families. U.S. and Japanese citizens are not permitted to take the train out of the DPRK; we will arrange for U.S. and Japanese citizens to fly to Beijing on the 19th of August for a surcharge of $150.

DEADLINE: The application deadline for this program is July 1st, 2014. All payments must also be received by this date. We recommend that you apply early and put down your deposit to guarantee your spot on the trip.

COST: $2,490 USD
Cost is per person based on double occupancy; single supplement options are available upon request for 30 Euro per night. Cost includes: most meals, entry tickets, DPRK visa and travel permit fees, transportation and guides. Cost excludes: optional performance tickets, drinks, personal spending, Chinese visa fees, flights to Yanji or from Beijing, some meals, insurance, and anything not mentioned under included.

VISAS: All participants are required to obtain double or multiple entry Chinese visas in their country of official residence or citizenship before the start of the program. We will issue all participants invitation letters for double entry Chinese visas if needed. Participants do not need to get their own DPRK visas; we will apply for them on your behalf and hand them out in Yanji at the start of the program.

DONATIONS: As we will be visiting several schools and spending time with middle school students, participants are encouraged to collect donations for schools, including sports equipment and apparel, pencils, pens, notebooks, stickers, etc. These donations will be given directly to the schools we visit.

RESTRICTIONS: The following items should not be brought with you on this program: literature or printed materials on the DPRK or ROK, Korean-language literature or media of any kind, satellite phones, GPS enabled devices, and 3G enabled devices. Additionally, participants should expect multiple restrictions placed on photography while in country.
