The European Union Air Safety Agency (EASA) has suspended the authorisation for the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to operate in Europe for six months, the airline's spokesman said on Tuesday.

The move follows the grounding of 262 pilots whose licences the Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan termed “dubious”.





“EASA has temporarily suspended PIA's authorisation to operate to the EU member states for a period of 6 months effective July 1, 2020, with the right to appeal against this decision,” a PIA statement said.

It added that PIA would discontinue all its flights to Europe temporarily.

So, I was working on Instagram during which I came across a post which stated "All this is because of an illiterate minister of aviation and so on. I just wanted to make my stance clear over here which is:

1- All this happened because of the incompetent previous governments if the previous governments had interfered on time and had thrown people who were doing corruption openly, and had canceled the licenses of all those fake pilots who were not competent enough to fly a commercial plane carrying so many passengers locally and abroad this situation wouldn't be here today but all those previous governments were themselves corrupt so how can they prevent someone else from doing corruption if you yourself are not clean?

2- I think the Minister did rightly by stating such a statement on the floor of the house, we as a nation shouldn't bash the prime minister or government instead we should ask the previous governments why is this situation here? How all these pilots got the licenses when their degrees are fake when they are not competent enough to fly?

3- Why we should bash the Minister of Aviation now is that he should clearly give the name of those pilots whose licenses are questionable, at-least now he should be taking some serious steps to ensure if we are being pushed down to our knees make sure when we get up we are strong enough to keep our head high.

4- I'm worried about PIA, an airline which was already drowning badly now has further hurdled to continue its operations. The future is seriously in trouble and questionable now!

5- What should've been done before has now haunted us very badly, but EU is right and sensible because if a PIA flight is going from Pakistan to Germany taking xx passengers, then definitely the same plane will carry xx passengers from Germany back to Pakistan or somewhere else and if a pilot is not competent enough to fly a commercial plane then how come sensible EU countries can allow such pilots to take their local citizens from their homeland to some other countries because they value their locals highly!


Corrupt Civil Aviation of Pakistan, Corrupt Previous Leadership, and third class maintenance has lead to such huge crisis.

PIA is done. It is over. There is nothing to be worried about. PIA is running on scraps. Soon it will be dismantled.

I will be honest to you. The PTI government is also to be blamed. They had ample time to take action. They haven't. Now chickens are coming home to roost. PIA should have been dismantled from day one when PTI took office. At a minimum, the government should have reduced staff and assets etc. Nothing happened.

PIA gets permission to continue flight operation in EU countries, UK

COLOGNE/KARACHI: European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has revised its decision to suspend flight operation of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for six months and allowed the national carrier to continue operating flights till July 3, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

The renewed decision was announced by the European Union aviation authority after the efforts of the foreign secretary who has immediately contacted ambassadors in all EU states after the suspension order for the PIA’s flight operation by EASA.

However, EASA has granted permission to PIA for operating flights in the countries for a limited period until July 3.

The PIA spokesperson Abdullah Khan said in a statement that the national airline was allowed to land and overflying in United Kingdom (UK) and European countries till further orders.

He added that PIA administration, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ambassadors were in contact with EU officials to remove their concerns. The flights between Islamabad and London will be operated as per routine, whereas, more flight schedule will be announced shortly, added the spokesperson.

Earlier, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) announced earlier in the day to suspend Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight operations for Europe over safety concerns. As per the announcement of EASA, the suspension was coming into force from Wednesday for the next six months.

All PIA flights to Europe will remain suspended after the order as the national flag carrier has asked passengers to either refund their tickets or extend them for a later date.

The EASA in a letter conveyed to the national flag carrier, said that they had suspended the Third Country Operator (TCO) Authorisation to PIA after it failed to comply with the proposed corrective action plans (CAPs).

It said that six findings were raised with the PIA officials during meetings in June and September 2019, out of which five of the action plans were implemented while one other concerning elements of a Safety Management Systems was not implemented.
