Asad is way too divisive a figure for any peace to return in Syria. Russia officially doesn't care much for him either but wants the state essentially under Ba'ath party and status quo. The only country in favor of Assad in power is Iran... My guess is until Russia and Turkiye reach a consensus on Assad's fate status quo will remain. Only thing is the country to lose the most will be Iran... the country that spent the most money and perhaps the most foreign blood to keep Assad in power.

Hi, SAA has not entered the city yet, but it is now confirmed that rebels and Nusrah has withdrawn from the city as it is almost surrounded and only road leading to idlib is not cutt off yet.

If it comes down to it, the Russians will abandon Assad, so long as their own interests are guaranteed. If guarantee Russian interests are guaranteed, the Russians don't care who's in charge in Syria. Russia is a pragmatic nation, they base their decisions on reason, logic, geopolitical opportunities, and most of all, what benefits Russia the most, and not some sort of misguided sense of honor, nor a moral sense.
