LAHORE: The Education Department has achieved 75 percent enrolment target for out-of-school children, during the Punjab governments ongoing drive, which started on August 14.
Education Acting Executive District Officer (EDO) Malik Ashraf, talking to reporters on Friday, said that according to a recent survey conducted by the department, at least 340,000 children between the age of four to 10 were out of school. He added since the enrolment initiative was taken, as many as 280,000 children have successfully been enrolled in the schools near their homes in nine towns of Lahore. The CDGL and education authorities have given the task of enrolling the remaining 60,000 students, by October 31, to the education DDOs at the town level.
Malik Ashraf said private schools in the city have also started enrolment of out-of-school children. He said the government would pay the schools. He said 1,463 teachers of science and arts subjects would be appointed and the process would be started after the approval of the recruitment policy by the Punjab government.
The EDO said the Education Department had initiated disciplinary proceedings against 150 school heads and teachers for poor matriculation results in 2013. app
