China has made heavy investments for years trying to offset US military superiority.
The US is just getting started. Now that our defense strategy is focused on near peer competitors the appropriate funds are now being allocated to maintain our technological superiority. That's why Selva stated we have the funds required to do so.
You do understand this level of investment will be over many years and in the multi trillions of dollars?
The US military operates in the SCS and Western Pacific on a daily basis. Your point?
"Will do this" "will do that"
USA is turning into India (aka Rapistan) with its boastings.
I know USA is going to invest a big chunk of money but what do you think China is doing they caught you and surpassed and now USA is catching up. USA wants to contain China and USA is restricting it's sales to many countries those sales could have helped USA to do the much needed research. Like many conventional military equipment which Pakistan was buying from USA have been banned by USA and we have to turn to China so my question to you is that. Is USA trying to catch china or help it. USA needs to Change a lot of policies to catch China. If USA continues to support Israeli superiority many will turn to China and that is bad for USA. You might not like what I am saying but this is the ground reality USA is helping China to win this Cold war.
China has changed the dynamics and USA has to adjust it's policies in this new race. USA has the cash but so do China.
No one really believes that, not even Chinese. Right now US is far ahead in most technologies. This is a defense forum my friend please avoid Jokes. USA is so far behind.
China hasn't "surpassed" the US military. The US military is the most capable on earth. An that statement is supported by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Dunford and Defense Sec Mattis.
Agreed but what technologies? care to name them.No one really believes that, not even Chinese. Right now US is far ahead in most technologies.

At this very moment USA has 3 airship carriers docked in Manila and Def Sec is at talks in China. Previously these ship would some where in SCS. The difference is visible.
the hesitation is there and every one can see it on US face.
No it doesn't. The Reagan carrier group is only in Manila for a goodwill visit. The US Navy has homeported in other countries for decades. You don't have a clue what your talking about.
US Aircraft Carrier Patrols Disputed Sea Amid China Buildup
MANILA, Philippines — The U.S. military has deployed the third aircraft carrier this year to patrol the disputed South China Sea, where Washington has criticized China's military buildup on new man-made islands.
The 97,000-ton USS Ronald Reagan, carrying more than 70 aircraft, anchored in Manila Bay on Tuesday after plying the strategic waters for meetings between navy officials of the two countries and liberty for its thousands of sailors after weeks at sea.
The U.S. military presence in the region "has supported our ability to defend our nation and our allies" and "promotes our ability to safeguard freedom of the seas, unimpeded commerce, to deter conflict and coercion and to promote adherence to rules-based international order," Rear Admiral Marc Dalton told reporters on board the ship.
Two other American carriers earlier patrolled the waterway, where China and five other governments have been locked in decades of disputes over territories that straddle some of the world's busiest sea lanes. Some areas are believed to have undersea deposits of natural gas and oil.

My applogies if I am wrong, but it seems to me that you are still very reminiscent about the past and Pakistan's alliance with the US. Do you feel that China is not as reliable as the US was back then? I don't know what Pakistanis think of their relationship with the US or China.USA is just sitting there watching China take every thing and that is a reality every one should accept. In the cold war against Russia USA had Pakistan and the Iron curtain collapsed now it is Cold war 2.0 and USA's biggest weapon of cold war "Pakistan" is in China's hand. Can you win this is the main question?

Government never loses its attention in spending money. That is its innate focus.A recent boost in the defense budget means the Pentagon should be able to make new investments in cutting-edge capabilities to regain technological momentum from China amid Beijing's military spending binge, according to Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Paul Selva. “Given the size of our budget, if we don't have the money to do this, then we're not paying attention,” Selva said today during a conference in Washington hosted by the Center for a New American...

Is this a joke? The US military is the most capable in human history. It's able to project power in any part of the world and sustain those operations for years on end.
This article is just stating the US has the necessary funds to advance our technological superiority in the face of sustained investments by our competitors.
