Stiff drink: Energy drink banned after it’s found to contain VIAGRA

AN ENERGY drink has been withdrawn from sale after it was found to contain the principal ingredient of Viagra.
Customers who drank Power Natural High Energy Drink SX complained of “constant sweating and a nearly six-hour erection”, according to a report from the Uganda National Drug Authority.
The drink, which was sold throughout Africa, was found to contain significant amounts of Sildenafil Citrate, the active ingredient in Viagra.
In Zambia, and neighbouring Zimbabwe, food safety officers made similar findings.
Zambia’s Ndola City Council said: “Results from both Zimbabwe and South Africa correlated with those obtained from the Foods and Drugs Laboratory that indicated a positive presence of sildenafil citrate.”
RISKY: Taking Viagra alongside other medications can have dangerous side effects (Pic: Revin Zambia Ltd)
Sildenafil citrate is currently a prescription drug in most countries.
It can have significant side-effects, especially if taken alongside other medication.
It has been recommended that anyone considering taking Viagra should be screened for heart abnormalities beforehand.
Viagra has also been known to affect hearing and vision in some cases.
RESTRICTED: Viagra is available over the counter in the UK, but not elsewhere (Pic: Getty)
It’s not yet clear whether manufacturers Revin Zambia Ltd were aware of the presence of the chemical in their drink, but the company is now prohibited from making the energy drink until it can prove that it has addressed the problem and has quality control to ensure it won’t happen again.
Natural Power Energy Drink SX was particularly popular among Zambian men.
It was sold in 500ml plastic containers, mostly in supermarkets and bars.
