End of Empire(1985), chapter 3: India, The Muslim Card

. . .
1 hour long videos...could you just give a gist of it?

The first video is about the rise of Muslim League after British jailed most of the Congress leaders during Quit India movement while the League supported the British in the war. When world war 2 was over and Congress leaders were released, Congress found that Muslim League is extremely powerful than before. The second video is about partition and riots.

. . .
Apparently before Britain came along Hindus and Muslims lived together in perfect peace and harmony for a thousand years with no conflict whatsoever *sarcasm

There is a history of Hindu-Muslim conflict in medieval India but British made a full use of this history to keep the division intact and old wounds unforgotten, some of them such policies were followed like creating Hindi-Urdu divide or partition of Bengal.

That's true I mean all those conflicts were limited to the rulers the social fabric of the indian society was intact though Muslims were always considered inferior by high caste Hindus .

Pakistan was suggested by Hindu leaders back in 1915s and 1920s.

This video lacks the context of what happened in 1940s was really the result of HINDU politics of early 1900s

British made many mistakes.

There is no doubt about it. However Pakistan and India formation is 90% result of Hindu politicians and their politics in early 1900s.

Before that Allama Iqbal suggested a separate status for North West, you can go any long in the past to start the history. BTW the documentary is about the popularity of Muslim League that skyrocketed only after the Pakistan resolution and jailing of most of the Congress leaders during World War 2.

Blaming is easy.

Do you know exactly what year Iqbal said what you are implying?

Also do you know what Iqbal wrote in his letter to his friend Prof. Weiss about what he meant?

When you talk about history, make sure you put approximate year along with specific incident. Otherwise you will come across as uneducated boy from a small village school.

Thank you

What I have read this all started with notorious Hindi-Urdu divide of 1837, British in attempt to appease the Muslim aristocracy of United Provinces tried to impose Urdu on predominant Hindu majority giving a sense of second class treatment among Hindus. When Hindus became stubborn for Hindi language, the Muslim leadership led by aristocracy came with victimhood mentality.

you didn't put the year when Allama Iqbal talked about Muslim majority provinces.

Why?

Please do not run away from your own posts.

I know it. So. Your point here is. Punjab and Sindh were mainly in Unionist stronghold during all these episode while the Muslim aristocracy of United Provinces was into Pakistan movement, one major reason being downtrodden Hindus in those areas started to exert their political muscle on numerical majority first starting with Hindi-Urdu divide making their fearful about the challenges to their dominance. ;)

That's true I mean all those conflicts were limited to the rulers the social fabric of the indian society was intact though Muslims were always considered inferior by high caste Hindus .

Hindus had their own part to blame for not assimilating with Muslims but Pakistan movement was more about political dominance and little to do with social part.
