ISLAMABAD:
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) claimed it recovered “thousands of kanals” of government land from encroachers, according to a CDA press release issued on Sunday.

The agency’s enforcement directorate, acting on the direction of CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal, retrieved illegally possessed CDA land in Bhara Kahu, Bani Gala and 1,500 kanals of land in green belts in H-10 and I-10.

The I-10 katchi abadi, which included a nonprofit school for children from the slum, was one of the katchi abadis razed by the civic agency to reclaim its land. But the press release did not mention the katchi abadi, which was located at the intersection of I-10 and H-10 sectors, and only referred to the greenbelt.

The CDA will now plant trees on the retrieved land, according to the press release. Afzal has directed the environment wing to install barbed wire around the land as well. The CDA will also use Google Maps images of the area to save it from future encroachments, according to the release.

The enforcement directorate and environment wing will also submit daily reports to the chairman about their respective tasks, the CDA said in the release.
