Which is again a very simplistic and limited view to look at the top one and then say India was worse, ignoring that India was 2nd in the same time compared to nearly the rest of the world (it's like comparing Indian military to US and saying we are behind, which is obvious but so is the rest of the world!). More importantly, when you look at the years since 2008 when the financial crisis came up and then compare Indias growth rates to the rest of the world, you would see how excellent India did during the crisis years, but the public in India itself was blinded by the 8 to 9% rates before the crisis. At the same time the whole world was moving only because they bet on the growth of China AND India!
Even the BJP admits now, that more than the UPA already did to get the growth back is hardly possible, because it's the global economy and financial situation than needs to recover, not Indias. Only then we will see more exports and more investments, we can improve the situation for foreign investors of course with FDI increase or easing TAX issues, but if the foreign players must come back from saving money to spending again. We see this change now and that's why the growth projection for India are are looking quiet good again. Btw, we currently are doing even better than China since they have a steeper fall of growth than we have and the projections show even a possible higher increase for us in the next 2 to 3 years.
So there is a huge gap between the growth expectations Indians had in the last years, compared to what was actually possible due to external problems!
But that is only one good point that often is not seen when we think about the last years, because we simply have a general bad idea about the time. One reason why I made this thread too:
Truth vs hype of Indian defence modernisation in the last 10 years
Just to show that there is a difference in the general perception and what actually was achieved and you can see similar achievements of the last 10 years in many different fields. Personally I am very happy and even proud to see Indias achievements in fighting polio or reducing HIV infections. Poverty rates were constantly reducing, while Indias middle-class gets bigger and bigger (which also shows the relation to the opening article) and I am a big fan of Indias foreign policy and happy that BJP continues to follow the ways there. Great things, that might not get the attention as our space missions, growth rates of 8 to 9% and might not put us in the league of China or the US, but have a far bigger effect on the country and the people itself.
