A number of modern weapons were found by GNA forces after their sweeping victory in the city of Gharyan, taking the entire city in a single day. Some of these were Javelins, RPG-32s, 155mm GP-6 artillery, Kornet EMs, and more.

f#cking hell. Just be glad this didn't happen to Pakistan. it seems as though anti tank missiles are now a compulsory staple in Syria level nation destroying.

I will have to say that this is nothing close to Syria-level, but ATGMs are extremely versatile in all jobs. What made me surprised of the news is that there isn't anything in Libya that would require a Javelin to destroy it. More TOWs or Kornets would have done the job just fine.

Worrying thing is the ease with which these destructive devices are available.

well you look at each side arsenal and yo find somebody is supporting them .Sadly for people of Libya they have wealth and everybody wants a share of that wealth.

U.S. Missiles Found in Libyan Rebel Camp Were First Sold to France

WASHINGTON — A cache of powerful American missiles was sold to France before ending up in the hands of rebel fighters loyal to Gen. Khalifa Hifter, who is seeking to overthrow the United Nations-backed government in Tripoli.

The four Javelin anti-tank missiles, which cost more than $170,000 each and are usually sold only to close American allies, were recovered last month by Libyan government forces during a raid on a rebel camp in Gheryan, a town in the mountains south of Tripoli.

A French military adviser denied on Tuesday that the weapons were transferred to General Hifter, which would violate the sales agreement with the United States as well as a United Nations arms embargo. It would also put Washington at odds over Libya policy with France, a staunch NATO partner and ally in other hot spots like West Africa.

Over the past several days, the State Department investigated the origins of the missiles, using their serial numbers and other information, and concluded that they had originally been sold to France, which has been a strong supporter of General Hifter. France agreed to buy up to 260 Javelins from the United States in 2010, according to the Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency.

In the middle of North Africa? Soooo believable! They should also explain why and how they run away?

believable story...

The French imperialists aren't satisfied with the 14 vassal African states that have to deposit their money into French banks and get issued currency by the French.. they have their sites on africas oil basket as well....

a sad has been country long overdue for a lesson.

the Vietnamese really showed the world how you deal with French imperialists...

this is the only language imperialists understand:

I can imagine UAE becoming extra subversive and granting qom parast rebels in Balochistan this kind of gear if Gwadar picks up.

They are actually technically true when they said that they were non-functioning. The French forces likely present in Gharyan before it was taken by the GNA took the CLU with them, effectively rendering it a missile without its launcher, useless. But I really doubt their claim that they were there in 2010, as Gaddafi allowed no foreign forces except the US Marines protecting their interim Embassy in the Corinthia Hotel. The fact that it was a new find suggests that the French were in Libya assisting the LNA in their operations in Tripoli.
