Writer ,Poet and Political Analyst, Farhad Mazhar লেখক, কবি ও রাজনৈতিক বিশ্লেষক ফরহাদ মজহারকে খুঁজে পাওয়া যাচ্ছে না। তাকে অপহরণ abducted করা হয়েছে বলে পরিবারের সদস্যরা দাবি করেছেন।

এক পরিচিত ব্যক্তির ফোন পেয়ে সোমবার ভোর 0500 hrs পাঁচটা ছয় মিনিটের দিকে রাজধানীর from near his residence in Shamoli,Dhaka শ্যামলীর বাসা থেকে ফরহাদ মজহার বের হন। এরপর থেকে আর তার সন্ধান পাওয়া যাচ্ছে না।

ফরহাদ মজহারের ঘনিষ্ঠ ও চিন্তা পাঠচক্রের অন্যতম এক সমন্বয়ক নাম প্রকাশ না করার শর্তে পরিবর্তন ডটকমকে বলেন, ‘কবি ফরহাদ মজহারকে সোমবার ভোরে রাজধানীর শ্যামলী থেকে অপহরণ করা হয়েছে। তিনি বাসা থেকে ভোর পাঁচটা ছয় মিনিটের দিকে বের হন। পরে পাঁচটা ২৯ মিনিটে স্ত্রী ফরিদা আখতারকে ফোন করে ভয়ার্ত কণ্ঠে বলেন- ‘ওরা আমাকে নিয়ে যাচ্ছে, ওরা আমাকে মেরে ফেলবে'। এরপর ফরহাদ মজহারের ফোন বন্ধ হয়ে যায়।’

তিনি বলেন, ‘পরে সকাল সাড়ে ছয়টার দিকে একই নম্বর থেকে ফোন থেকে ফরিদা আখতারের কাছে ৩৫ লাখ টাকা চাওয়া হয়। এভাবে কয়েকবার ফোন করা হয়। পরে ফরহাদ মজহারকে অপহরণের বিষয়টি আইনশৃংখলা বাহিনীকে অবহিত করা হয়।’

তিনি আরো বলেন, ‘বাসার ভিডিও ফুটেজেও দেখা গেছে, ফরহাদ মজহার নেমে যাচ্ছেন। এ বিষয়ে রাজধানীর আদাবর থানায় ঘটনাটি জানানো হয়েছে। পরে আইনশৃঙ্খলা বাহিনী মোবাইল ট্র্যাকিং করে তার অবস্থান প্রথমে মানিকগঞ্জ ও পরে মাগুরায় পেয়েছে বলে আমাদের জানিয়েছেন। পাটুরিয়া ফেরিঘাট দিয়ে তাকে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়েছে।’

পরিবারের বরাতে আদাবর থানার এসআই মোহসিন পরিবর্তন ডটকমকে বলেন, ‘সকাল ১০টার দিকে ফরহাদ মজহারের এক আত্মীয় থানায় এসে অভিযোগ করেন, তাকে খুঁজে পাওয়া যাচ্ছে না। ভোরে পরিচিত এক লোকের ফোন পেয়ে বাসা থেকে বেরিয়ে যান। এরপর আর তার সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ হয়নি।’

তিনি আরো বলেন, ‘ফরহাদ মজহারের বাসায় এখন শুধু তার স্ত্রী রয়েছেন। ওই ঘটনায় এখনো কোনো জিডি বা মামলা হয়নি। তবে অভিযোগ পাওয়ার পর ওসি ও ইনস্পেক্টর তদন্ত ফরহাদ মজহারের বাসায় গিয়েছেন। তারাই এ বিষয়ে বিস্তারিত জানাতে পারবেন।’

কবি, লেখক ও কলামিস্ট ফরহাদ মজহারকে অপহরণ করা হয়েছে। সোমবার ভোররাতে তিনি মোহাম্মদপুর লিংক রোডের হক গার্ডেনের নিজ বাসা থেকে বের হন। এর কিছুক্ষণ পর তিনি তার স্ত্রীকে ফোন করে বলেন, ওরা আমাকে নিয়ে যাচ্ছে। ওরা আমাকে মেরে ফেলবে। পরে ওই ফোন থেকে তার স্ত্রীর কাছে ফোন করে অর্থ দাবি করা হয়।
সকাল ১০টার দিকে ফরহাদ মজহারের এক স্বজন আদাবর থানায় বিষয়টি অবহিত করেন। তবে থানায় আনুষ্ঠানিক কোন অভিযোগ দায়ের করা হয়নি। তথ্য পেয়েই পুলিশ কর্মকর্তারা ফরহাদ মজহারের বাসায় যান। আদাবর থানার উিউটি অফিসার এসআই মহসিন জানিয়েছেন, সকাল ১০টার দিকে ফরহাদ মজহারের এক স্বজন থানায় তথ্য দেন। তথ্য পেয়েই থানা পুলিশ তৎপরতার শুরু করেছে।

Family today claimed that columnist and writer Farhad Mazhar has been kidnapped from Mohammadpur area of Dhaka.

Responding to a phone call, he went out of his Adabar house around 5:00am, Biplob Kumar Sarker, deputy commissioner (Tejgaon division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told The Daily Star this afternoon quoting his wife Farida Akter.

According to Farida, half an hour after he went out of the house, he called her through his mobile phone and said, “Save me, they have kidnapped me. They will kill me”.

After receiving a verbal complaint, police visited his house and found a CCTV footage that shows Mazhar leaving the house around 5:07am “in normal gesture”, the police official said.

“We’re trying to trace him,” he added.

ভারতের গো-রক্ষা আন্দোলনের নামে মুসলিম হত্যার প্রতিবাদ না করায় সরকারী ও বিরোধী রাজনৈতিক দলের সমালোচনা করেছেন দৈনিক আমার দেশ পত্রিকার সম্পাদক মাহমুদুর রহমান।

প্রথমে গোয়েন্দারা ঐ সংবাদ সম্মেলন পণ্ড করতে মাহমুদুর রহমানের বাসায় হানা দেয় । পরে অনুমোদন দেয়।

Police locate ‘abducted’ columnist Farhad Mazhar in Khulna

Columnist Farhad Mazhar, a critic of the government, went missing after leaving his Dhaka home early Monday and police anonymously said he was located about 250 kilometres away in Khulna region in a quickly unfolding event.



“We have been able to find his location in the country’s southwestern region," the senior official told bdnews24.com, seeking anonymity as the case is sensitive.

Police are keeping surveillance and trying to rescue Mazhar, said Biplob Kumar Saha, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

“The police are trying to trace him with the help of technology. But the matter is still very mysterious,” said Saha.

Detectives raided a location in Khulna’s Baira but did not find Mazhar, said SM Shafiullah, Khulna additional superintendent of police, whose team has been getting instructions from the headquarters in Dhaka.

After Mazhar went missing, a police complaint was filed by one of his relatives around 10am.

The 70-year-old left his home in Dhaka’s Shyamoli shortly after 5:00am, following a phone call, said Adabar Police SI Mohsin Ali.

Mazhar later called his wife on her mobile and asked her to manage Tk 3.5 million for ransom, he said.

bdnews24.com reached the columnist's wife Farida Akhter by phone. "I am busy, can't talk now," she said before hanging up.

Mazhar's family friend and writer Goutam Das said he was called away by some people in the morning.

He called his family 24 minutes after he left home -- to say he was being abducted, according to Das.

Mazhar made the call using his own phone, a family member told bdnews24.com correspondent Liton Haider.

“He said he’ll be killed unless his abductors are paid Tk 3.5 million.”

The family could not name any suspect behind the abduction.

Mazhar lived in a building called Haque Garden at Shyamoli’s Ring Road. Senior police officers, including the Adabar OC, have gone over to the house.

The BNP has already pointed the finger at the government, blaming Mazhar’s disappearance “on one of its agencies”.

“We don’t think this happened without the government’s knowledge. Surely one of its teams or agencies is involved in this incident,” said BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi during an emergency media briefing at the party’s headquarters in Naya Paltan.

A self-proclaimed Marxist, Mazhar started a controversy by opposing Ganajagaran Mancha, a mass campaign that started in 2013 calling for maximum penalty to war criminals from Bangladesh’s liberation struggle.

But he was widely criticised by left-leaning parties for his statements supporting Hifazat-e-Islam, a radical Islamist outfit that also opposed the Shahbagh-based campaign.

Mazhar, appearing on TV talk shows, likened several media outlets to terrorists, and said their assaults during violent shutdowns enforced by the BNP-led alliance were ‘justified’.

During a meeting, he had advised BNP chief Khaleda Zia to start a tougher anti-government movement.

Mazhar received an economics degree in the US after graduating in pharmacy from Dhaka University.

He returned home to Bangladesh to start a neo-agricultural movement through his organisation UBINIG.

Mazhar, known for his grey ponytail and preference for ‘lungis’, has been editing a publication called Chintaa, or Thought.

Farhad Mazhar was picked up blindfolded yesterday morning, a detective official said on completion of his primary interrogation.


“Farhad Mazhar was blindfolded, picked up and taken away,” said Abdul Baten, joint commissioner of Detective Branch, quoted Mazhar as saying.

At a briefing at Dhaka Metropolitan Police media centre, Abdul Baten said they could obtain no further insights into the incident.

“A kidnapping case was registered with Adabar Police Station in this regard last night. He has been sent to court in connection with this case for his confession as victim under section 164.”

Notably, reporters threw a flurry of questions about the whole incident to the police official, which he avoided. He walked off without turning to any of the questions.

‘Tied in a sack’, then found alone
Rapid Action Battalion-6 Commanding Officer Rafiqul Islam told The Daily Star that Mazhar told the elite force he was tied up in a sack during his period of abduction.

“CCTV footages show him leaving Dhaka in a microbus. The vehicle itself is traceless. Later, he was seen having dinner at a restaurant beside Khulna New Market around 8:30pm,” the official said.

“The restaurant manager tipped us off. Mazhar was alone at that time. We showed his photo at all the bus counters in the city and managed to pinpoint the bus he was in.”

“We then rescued him from the bus on the highway. We could not get any further details. He kept telling us that he was sick and that he would say more later.”

অপহৃত হওয়ার প্রায় ১৯ ঘণ্টা পর যশোরের শিল্পশহর নওয়াপাড়া থেকে উদ্ধার হয়েছেন লেখক, কবি, বুদ্ধিজীবী ও কলামিস্ট ফরহাদ মজহার। সোমবার রাত সাড়ে ১১টার দিকে নওয়াপাড়া বেঙ্গল টেক্সটাইল মিলের সামনে ঢাকাগামী হানিফ পরিবহনের একটি বাস থেকে তাকে উদ্ধার করে র‌্যাব। বাসটি খুলনা থেকে ছেড়ে আসে।

পরে তাকে স্থানীয় অভয়নগর থানায় নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়। সেখান থেকে রাতেই কড়া প্রহরায় তাকে পার্শ্ববর্তী ফুলতলা থানায় নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়। মঙ্গলবার সকাল ৯টার দিকে তাকে ঢাকায় আনার পর আদাবর থানায় নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়। পরে সকাল ১০টার দিকে তাকে মিন্টো রোডের গোয়েন্দা পুলিশের (ডিবি) কার্যালয়ে নিয়ে ‍যাওয়া হয়।

বিভিন্ন সংবাদপত্র মারফত জানা যায়, তিনি সোমবার রাত ৮টার দিকে খুলনার গ্রীল হউস হোটেলে ভাত ডাল সবজি খেয়েছেন। হানিফ পরিবহনের বাসে তিনি গফুর নামে টিকিট কাটেন। সিসিটিভি ফুটেজে তিনি এক কাপড়ে ঘর থেকে বের হয়ে গেলেও পুলিশ বলছে তাকে ব্যাগসহ উদ্ধার করা হয়েছে। অন্যদিকে অপহরণের পর ফরহাদ মজহার ফোনে স্ত্রীকে ‘ওরা আমাকে ধরে নিয়ে যাচ্ছে, ওরা আমাকে মেরে ফেলবে’ বললেও পুলিশ বলছে তিনি স্বেচ্ছায় খুলনায় ভ্রমণ করেছেন।

– যিনি ফিরে অাসছেন বা যাঁকে ফিরিয়ে দেয়া হয়েছে, তিনি/তাঁকে কেন ছদ্মনামে লুকিয়ে বাসে ওঠানো হলো? এগেইন, ওই মাইক্রোবাস কেন ফিরলো না?

– গ্রিল হাউসে কবে থেকে ভাত-ডাল-সব্জি বিক্রি হয়?

– তাঁকে কেন র‌্যাব ক্যাম্পে নেয়া হয়েছিল কেন? তখনই তো তাঁকে পরিবারে বা হাসপাতালে পাঠিয়ে চেকাপ করানোর কথা।

– কার ফোন পেয়ে তিনি বের হন?

– সিসিটিভি ফুটেজে একবস্ত্রে বের হওয়া ব্যক্তি কীভাবে ব্যাগসহ ‘উদ্ধার’ হন?

– ৩৫ লাখ টাকার মুক্তিপণের ফোন কেন করানো হয়েছিল?

– ভারতে মুসলিম নিধন নিয়ে প্রতিবাদের পরপরই কেন এটা ঘটলো?

– নিজেকে ‘গুম’ দেখিয়ে ওনার কী লাভ?

– অসুস্থ, বিভ্রান্ত ও নির্বাক দেখাচ্ছিল কেন তাঁকে?

– অতীতের নিখোঁজেরা ফিরে এসে কেন চুপ হয়ে যান?

– অতীতের ক্রসফায়ার ও বন্দুকযুদ্ধের সরকারি গল্পগুলো কী এবারের গল্পের মতোই?

......জবাব থাকবে না কেনো? ....,অবশ্যই আছে। অপহরনকারী হলো হাসিনা বাহিনী এবং হিন্দুস্তান।।

Shahidul Islam ফরহাদ মজহারকে নিয়ে সাজানো সরকারের নাটকটি নিয়ে যে প্রশ্ন গুলু হাজির হচ্ছে সবার মনে।
সরকারের ভাষ্যে ফরহাদ মজহার অভিমান করে ভোর ৫টায় বাসা থেকে বের হয়ে যান! কিন্তু সিসিটিভির ফুটেজে স্পষ্ট দেখা যায়, শুধু পাঞ্জাবি ও লুঙ্গি পড়ে বের হন তিনি। হাতে কোন ব্যাগ বা কিছুই ছিল না। কিন্তু আইন শৃঙ্খলা রক্ষাকারী বাহিনী তার কাছে একটি ব্যাগ আবিষ্কার করেছে। মোবাইল ফোনের চার্জার পেয়েছে। শার্টও পেয়েছে। অথচ কস্মিনকালেও তিনি শার্ট পরেন না। ফরহাদ মজহারের মেয়েকে ব্যাগ নিয়ে প্রশ্ন করলে তিনি বলেন, ‘ব্যাগ সঙ্গে নিয়েছেন কিনা তা তো জানি না। বাট উনি প্রায়ই একটা ব্যাগ সঙ্গে রাখেন বই পড়ার জন্য। তবে তার কাছে যেমন ব্যাগ দেখা গেছে তেমন ব্যাগ উনি ইউজ করেন না। এ ব্যাগ কোথায় থেকে আসলো জানি না।’

ফরহাদ মজহারকে যে শীততাপ নিয়ন্ত্রিত হানিফ পরিবহণ থেকে উদ্ধার করা হয়েছে, সেই বাসের সর্বমোট যাত্রী ছিলেন উনিসহ তিনজন মাত্র। ঈদের মৌসুমে যেখানে বাসের টিকিটের হাহাকার, সেখানে ফাঁকা বাস ঢাকায় যাচ্ছিল!! এখন আষাঢ় মাসে আষাঢ়ে গল্প বলছে পুলিশ।

কত রঙ্গ ! দেশের মানুষকে কত হাদারাম বোকা ভাবে পুলিশ। আকাশের যত তারা পুলিশের তত ধারা!!

এরপরও সাংবাদিক সহকর্মীদের মতো আমারও প্রশ্ন-
ফরহাদ মজহার:
১. মাইক্রোবাসে করে গিয়ে বাসে ফিরলেন কেন?
২. সেই মাইক্রোবাসটি কার? কে চালিয়েছিল? কোথায় তা এখন?
৩. সন্ধ্যা পর্যন্ত তাঁর চোখ বাঁধা ছিল কেন? (যুগান্তর)
৪. যিনি ফিরে আসছেন বা যাঁকে ফিরিয়ে দেয়া হয়েছে, তিনি/তাঁকে কেন ছদ্মনামে লুকিয়ে বাসে ওঠানো হলো? আবারো, ওই মাইক্রোবাসে কেন ফিরলো না?
৫. গ্রিল হাউজে কবে থেকে ভাত-ডাল-সব্জি বিক্রি হয়?
৬. তাঁকে র্যাব ক্যাম্পে নেয়া হয়েছিল কেন? তখনই তো তাঁকে পরিবারে বা হাসপাতালে পাঠিয়ে চেকাপ করানোর কথা।
৭. কার ফোন পেয়ে তিনি বের হন?
৮. সিসিটিভি ফুটেজে এক-বস্ত্রে বের হওয়া ব্যক্তি কীভাবে ব্যাগসহ 'উদ্ধার' হন?

‘Blindfolded, taken away on microbus’

Farhad Mazhar gives statement under 164; family takes him to hospital from court

Writer and poet Farhad Mazhar in a judicial statement yesterday said several unidentified men forced him into a microbus and blindfolded him minutes after he came out of his Adabor house to buy medicine early in the morning on Monday, according to court sources.

While giving the statement under Section 164 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) before a magistrate in Dhaka, he also said law enforcement agencies rescued him from a bus in Noapara of Jessore as he was heading for the capital after the abductors released him in Khulna.

He thought that a vested quarter orchestrated the incident to put the government in an embarrassing situation, the sources added.

Yesterday afternoon, he was placed in his own custody following an application after Metropolitan Magistrate Ahsan Habib recorded his statement. His wife Farida Akhter and other relatives were present at the courtroom.

The family took him to Birdem Hospital from the court as he was feeling sick, Farida's sister Sayyida Akhter told The Daily Star around 9:00pm.


A joint team of Rab-6 and Abhoynagar police in Jessore found Farhad on a bus in Jessore around 11:30pm on Monday, more than 18 hours after he reportedly went missing from outside his home.

Later, he was immediately taken to Phultola Police Station in Khulna and from there to Adabor Police Station in Dhaka around 8:00am. He was shifted to the office of Detective Branch where top officials interrogated him.

The writer was at the DB office from 10:00am to 2:30pm before being sent to the Metropolitan Magistrate's Court.

“Farhad Mazhar was blindfolded, picked up and taken away,” DB Joint Commissioner Abdul Baten quoted him as saying while briefing reporters.

Farhad's statement before the magistrate and police officials, however, contradicts a statement of Khulna Range DIG Didar Ahmed that he was travelling alone and apparently in good health.

"He seemed completely alright. He was carrying a bag which had in it an extra shirt, towel, mobile charger, some cash and other necessary things people usually carry during a journey,” Didar told journalists around Monday midnight.

Footage of CCTVs installed near his house shows Farhad leaving his apartment at 5:05am alone and there was no one with him. No bag was seen with him in the footage.

A mid-ranked police official, who interrogated Farhad in DB office, told The Daily Star that the writer was completely traumatised after the incident and he could not remember many things during interrogation.

Farhad told police that he woke up early in the morning for doing his writings like other days. He went out of his house around 5:00am to get medicine for his dry eyes from a 24/7 pharmacy in front of Suhrawardy Hospital.

He was picked up when he reached near Shyamoli intersection, the police official quoted him as saying. "They kept him on the footwell between two rows of seats on the microbus and hurled abusive words during the journey."

Tracking his phone, police found his presence in six areas --Gabtoli, Manikganj, Aricha, Faridpur, Jessore and finally in Khulna.

“Before releasing him around 7:30pm near Khulna Shibbari area, the abductors gave him a bus ticket and asked to go back to Dhaka. They said they would be following him.”

Farhad then went to a restaurant near Khulna New Market to have a meal before boarding the Hanif Paribahan bus.

Meanwhile, Khondoker Rafiqul Islam, commanding officer of Rab-6, said Farhad Mazhar told the elite force that he was tied up in a sack for some time on the microbus.

“CCTV footage in Dhaka shows him leaving Dhaka on a microbus. The vehicle is yet to be traced,” he told The Daily Star.

Farida Akhter had filed an abduction case on Monday night saying her husband was kidnapped by unknown persons. DB Joint Commissioner Abdul Baten said they would investigate the case based on the judicial statement.

Hours after Farhad reportedly went missing, his wife at a press conference at their house said she got a phone call from his number at 5:29am. "He told me that some people were picking him up. He said they would kill him.”

She said Farhad again called her from his number around 6:21am and requested her to arrange Tk 30 to 35 lakh to be paid as ransom.

The family received three to four more phone calls from him. The last one was at 7:30pm, she said.

I also had learned there were severe pressure on Hasina to release him. 6-7 years ago when saudi diplomat was killed by india trained and operated killing squad, many could not accept the fact there is a indian killing squad in Bangladesh. এদিকে ফরহাদ মজহারকে উদ্ধারের পর সোমবার রাত ১টার দিকে খুলনা রেঞ্জের ডিআইজি দিদার আহমেদ এক সংবাদ সম্মেলনে বলেন, প্রাথমিকভাবে আমাদের মনে হয়েছে, তিনি ঢাকা থেকে স্বেচ্ছায় খুলনায় ভ্রমণ করেন। দৈনন্দিন ব্যবহারের জিনিসসহ তার সঙ্গে ব্যাগপত্র ছিল। তবে এখনই এ বিষয়ে পুরোপুরি নিশ্চিত করে কিছু বলা যাবে না। তাকে ঢাকায় এনে বিস্তারিত জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ করা হবে।

পুলিশের এ দাবি নাকচ করে পরিবারের পক্ষ থেকে বলা হয়েছে ‘বাসার সিসিটিভির ভিডিও ফুটেজে তারা দেখেছেন, বাসা থেকে বের হওয়ার সময় তার হাতে কোনো ধরনের ব্যাগপত্র ছিল না।’

পরিবারের পক্ষ থেকে আরও বলা হয়, উদ্ধারের পর ফরহাদ মজহার পরিবারকে জানিয়েছেন- ‘সন্ধ্যার পর তার চোখের বাঁধন খোলা হয়’।” (যুগান্তর)
