ISLAMABAD: Days after authorities in the federal capital sealed the offices of international non-governmental organisation Save the Children, the interior ministry has allowed the INGO to resume operations in Pakistan.

Save the Children has previously been accused of involvement with the Central Intelligence Agency and Dr Shakeel Afridi in tracking down the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad.

Suspending its first orderin which it sealed offices and operations of the INGO in Islamabad earlier this week, the Ministry of Interior let the international NGO to continue its work in the country.

“The undersigned is directed to refer to this ministry’s letter of even number dated 11th June 2015 on the subject noted about. The competent authority has desired that the action on above letter may be held in abeyance till further order,” reads the letter issued by Ministry of Interior. “The organisation [Save the Children] can continue its work in Pakistan as it has been doing for decades until any further orders,” a senior official of interior Ministry said.

“We are in process of regulating all INGOs and NGOs and all international organisations have been directed to follow the new laws or close their offices,” he added.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar has said the government is working on streamlining the operations of all non-profit organisations working in the country to regulate their activities.

Speaking to reporters outside the National Assembly in Islamabad on Friday, Nisar said a committee constituted by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was working on drafting new laws to set a mechanism for operations of all such organisations. PM’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi heads the committee.

He added that no non-governmental organisation (NGO) working against the country’s national interest would be allowed to continue working in Pakistan. “We just want to regulate the system. We do not want to shut down NGOs, which follow our laws.”

One day they close the NGO. Ch. Nisar fumes at the NGOs working against national interest.

State Department expresses concern the next day.

The day after we get this rather embarrassing news!

What this U-turn done is that it has seriously weakened Pakistan credibility. Its being seen as a country that can bend to foreign whims. This U-turn has damaged Pakistan beyond repair.

Hope we understand the impact and how we become a butt of jokes through decisions like these is a serious matter to consider and take up.

But we Pakistanis forget very quickly and too generous with people who constantly hurt us.

Nobody sees these U turns of Noora league yet are desperate to find one in IK even when the latter is not concerned in any manner with the strategic interests of Pakistan as he not the one leading Pakistan where as the former is. This pathetic league did the same in 99 during kargil war, and still have learned nothing. I hope the other Sharif puts some sense into this moron we have for a PM and make him do the right thing.

On a side note i feel sorry for Mr. Bean. At least he is trying.

Yeah ....and whatever Pakistan earns through these NGO be spent on their 'close surveillance' ...Foreign agencies works under the banners of Diplomats, Journalists and teachers ....there were ample of evidence that's why first it was given a warning and then it was shut down ...now this U-turn does mean that Nawaz Sharif succumbed to the pressure of Washington which is shameful !

I did not say PAKISTAN earns, I said PAKISTANIS earn, who are employed by these NGOs. Secondly, either your agencies and/or government did not have ample evidence (regardless of what you or they say) or they were not sincere and honest with this country for bowing under undue pressure and revoking ban, and letting anti-state NGOs to contine harming the country. Please do not single out Nawaz but include military leadership too.
