Elements in ISI supporting terrorists: U.S.

The Pentagon has conceded that some elements of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) is supporting the terrorist networks in the country, thus undermining the war against terrorism by the U.S.-led international forces in the region.

It is for the first time probably, Pentagon, which often is accused of shielding the Pakistan Army and the ISI, acknowledged that the latter has links with terrorist networks, which is a matter of serious concern for the United States.

Pentagon spokesman Col David Lapan told reporters that some members of the ISI “might be interacting with terrorist organisations in ways that aren’t consistent with what the government and military are doing.”

The spokesman was responding to questions about a news report in The Wall Street Journal which said that ISI is asking and assisting Taliban against NATO and U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

Noting that ISI as an organisation does not support terrorism, Mr. Lapan said some elements within the intelligence agency are providing assistance to terrorists.

Observing that the top Pakistan military leadership is working to correct the problem, he said, but like any large organisation, change is difficult and comes slowly.

“The ISI has done a great deal in fighting terrorism. Some have said they probably have killed more terrorists than any other organisation. But we also have some concerns with the strategic focus of the ISI,” Mr. Lapan said, adding that Pakistan Army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani is aware of these concern and shares it.

“Our optimism is that Gen. Kayani understands and has made it clear that they need to make some changes,” he said.

The Pentagon spokesman said there is no word from Pakistan yet as to when the Torkham Gate would be reopened, which is an important supply line for NATO and U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

The crucial supply line was closed by Pakistani officials in the aftermath of death of two Pakistani soldiers in NATO air on September 30 on the ****** border. The U.S. on Thursday apologised for the incident.

Mr. Lapan acknowledged that the closure of supply line has increased security threat to hundreds of trucks waiting to cross the border, as it was very much evident in increasing number of Taliban attacks on these Afghanistan-bound trucks.

“The Pakistanis understand that we would like to see these gates open as soon as possible. We also understand that ultimately it is their decision, they take the security situation into consideration,” he said.

Wake up before it is too late. We are here to help you if you are serious;

Let us see some connections here

Ilyas Kashmiri, terrorist now in North Waziristan has a very close relationship to Army elite. He was a special forces regiment officer during the time when Gen. Musharraf was his commander. He was awarded by Musharaff for presenting the head of an Indian solder in Kashmere. Now this dirtbag is attacking US forces and planning attacks on Europe.

Faisal Shahzad, another dirt bag, now in US prison, is a son of Pak Airforce Air Chief Marshall.

Dawood Gilani aka David Headley one of the master mind of 26/11 is a son of a senior Pakistani diplomat and studied at the elite Pak Military academy.

Another dirt bag who is dead now is Abdul Jabbar, is the brother of a senior official in the Pakistani Prime Minister's office. Isn't a coincidence he is from Jhellum, the recruiting base of Pak Army?

As president Obama says, it is a cancer that is spreading in Pakistan tribal areas. If you don't treat it soon, it will be too late

.
just a response to pressure pakistan to open khyber pass

.
As usual the same old mantra from the US crappy media "do more"

Well then you have a funny of helping by making sure that no one survives!!!!
Your attempts to make these connections are bogus & pathetic, you are trying to lump together the the entire population of Pakistan & it's military establishment with few extremists, if that's the case then i am inclined to believe that the treatment of prisoners in Abu ghareeb was at the behest of the American military and in that sense they are no better than those terrorists. Remember it's the outcome that matters & not the intent!!! if you know what i mean.
Please would you care to name that elite military academy? & how in the world is Jhelum the recruiting base of Pakistan army?

.
what is the point guys..how many times have we heard this...not even worth discussing...someone in US will say something abt ISI and Indian media will report it as some major news..this has been happening for so long...

.
Its not about 'might' and 'are', its the third time in this past week that fingers are being raised at Pakistan's state organization and army supporting act of terrorism. Its not India, this time its former head of the state and Pakistan's neutral ally.

Amigo

I am not linking the entire population of Pakistan. We understand most are moderate and wants peace and that is the reason US is with Pakistani in the long run. These comments are originating from White House and Pentagon officials. Don't flat out deny these allegations.
