Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has filed an application on rising electricity prices by Rs4.33 pertaining to the fuel adjustments bills for the month of November.

According to details, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will hear the meeting on December 29.

As per details shared by CPPA, during the month of November electricity by using water 33.21 per cent, coal 16.26 percent, Francis oil 1.71 and local gas 12.89 per cent was generated.

Meanwhile 14.25 per cent of electricity was generated by LNG and 17.51 per cent by atomic fuel.

Earlier in November, NEPRA had fixed the reference fuel expenditure by Rs3.73 per unit and generated 8 billion and 24 hundred thousand units electricity. It is pertinent to mention here that the expenditure of electricity is 66 billion and 52 hundred thousand units electricity.

Moreover, the electricity prices were previously increased pertaining to the October’s adjustment bills by Rs4.74 while with the current increase, an extra expense of Rs40 billion will have to be tolerated by the consumers.

The federal government has decided to increase the electricity tariffs under the new plan of subsidy reform.

Sources told ProPakistani that the Ministry of Energy (MoE) has proposed two new categories (protected or unprotected) in the reform plan for those consumers who will use electricity up to 200 units. Protected are those consumers whose consumption does not go beyond 200 units consistently for six months.

The electricity tariff for protected category consumers would be Rs. 3.95 up to 50 per unit, Rs. 7.74 for 1-100 per unit, and Rs. 10.06 for 101 to 200 units of electricity, and the government will directly give subsidies to this category of consumers (1 to 200 units) by allocating the amount in the annual budget.

The electricity tariff for unprotected category consumers would be Rs. 9.50 for 1-100 units, Rs. 10.36 for 101-200 units, and Rs. 12.62 for 201-300 units. In addition, the electricity tariff would be Rs. 17.19 for 401 to 500 units, Rs. 18.11 for 501 to 600, Rs. 18.75 for 601 to 700, and Rs. 22.22 for those who consume electricity more than 700 units.

Overall, the Ministry of Energy has proposed to enhance tariff from 0.08 to 0.95% for unprotected consumers using 1 to 700 units of electricity. Sources said that the Ministry of Energy has been working on three phases of subsidy reform.

The government has a plan to gradually reduce in total net subsidy for unprotected groups of residential consumers besides the removal of previous slab benefits (incremental block tariff). Sources said that ministry has also divided the agriculture consumers (Tubewells) slab into two categories based on simple criteria (plot size or motor capacity).

Meanwhile, Reforming subsidies to QESCO Tubewells by partially exchanging electricity subsidies to subsidize solarization and modernization of Tubewells and gradually decrease and eliminate subsidies as solarization progresses.

Sources said that government will integrate the CNIC data with NSER in order to provide electricity subsidy to the neediest based on their welfare score (not on consumption).

It is pertinent to note that the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on Thursday approved Power Sector Subsidies – Phase –II, which included removal of one slab benefit (Incremental block tariff) and incorporation of revised subsidy and inter-distribution companies tariff rationalization/cross-subsidies.

This plan would be presented to the federal cabinet meeting on Tuesday for final approval.

interestingly regardless of governments, it is a norm that they tend to increase the prices of electricity in winters when AC/Fridge etc usage is minimum so it does not creates any immediate shoor sharaba because of hikes in bills

This is crazy. Without going in to politics, can anyone explain if there's any way out of this mess? Can't these legal agreements be challenged on some national or international forum? I am sure if someone digs in files somewhere something should be found which indicates malafide intentions or corruption.

just today i came from k electric customer center. ppl were line lines this is their bill info

4 units used and bills were 2600 why? fuel adjustment payment.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has completed a hearing on the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) request to jack up electricity tariff by Rs4.33 per unit.

If the features provided by the CPPA were correct, the price of per unit electricity would be increased by Rs4.33 per unit and if proved incorrect, the power tariff would be jacked up Rs3.57 per unit.

According to details, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has completed the hearing regarding the increase in electricity prices for the month of November under month fuel adjustment.


NEPRA completed the conditional hearing on the increase of Rs3.57 per unit.

During the hearing, NEPRA said that it would review the data of CPPA and if the data is correct, an increase of Rs4.33 per unit will be notified.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – After increasing prices of petroleum products, the government is preparing to put more burden on masses by increasing the power tariff, electricity distribution companies have approached NEPRA to increase the tariff.
According to the plea filed by the power distribution companies, the increase in power tariff has been requested in the context of the first quarter adjustment of current financial year.
The increase in tariff will put an additional burden of Rs 17.85 billion on consumers while the increase will be in terms of capacity charges and transmission losses.
NEPRA will hold a hearing on January 12. The regulatory authority said that electricity distribution companies have demanded increase in electricity prices in terms of capacity charges, transmission and distribution losses and other issues.
It may be recalled that on December 9, the NEPRA had increased the price of electricity by Rs4.74 per unit in terms of monthly fuel adjustment.
