ISLAMABAD: An inquiry commission probing rigging allegations in May 2013 general elections concluded its proceedings on Friday after 86 days and reserved its verdict.

A three-judge commission headed by Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk and comprising Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan held 39 hearings, wherein 69 witnesses were presented. The first hearing of the commission was held on April 9.

“Perhaps, the commission will give its findings before Eidul Fitr,” an official close to the commission said. The chief justice is set to retire on August 18 and it is expected that the commission will give its findings by the end of this month.

Further, top jurists namely Abdul Hafiz Pirzada, Aitzaz Ahsan and Shahid Hamid who are representing the major political parties have lauded the chief justice for conducting smooth proceedings of the commission.

ECP’s counsel Salman Akram Raja while concluding his arguments admitted before the commission that the custody of post-election material needs to be improved and the federal government as well as the Parliament should look into this affair. “ECP is facing immense shortage of funds and despite several requests the government did not raise funds,” Raja added.

Further, the chief justice questioned what the future planning of the ECP is regarding storage of post-election material. The ECP counsel replied that the commission has already asked the federal government to allocate land for building a storage for post-election material.

Earlier, The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had raised questions over the ‘neutrality’ of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) before the inquiry commission.

PTI counsel Abdul Hafeez Pirzada informed the three-judge commission that the ECP on every step of the way balked at providing the record of the last elections, adding that the poll authority should have made available the entire record pertaining to the elections 2013 on day one.

I think the judgement is already well known that it will be against the wishes of the PTI. But PTI will successfully be able to avoid humiliation as the judgement will certainly point out the weakness of the Election Commission and the interim government during elections 2013.

I am tired of this useless drivel that somehow PTI will be 'humiliated' if the verdict of JC goes against their claims of rigging. It doesn't matter what the verdict is as long election results are probed justly. Findings of the report will then be interpreted by all parties involved that would eventually lead to reforms of EC, ROs etc so that next elections do not end up as controversial as the past ones. That was the whole idea behind formation of JC; an independent inquiry into the process of how elections are conducted in Pakistan. And IK has been quite successful at it!

That’s what I am going to predict as well, it will be complicated and both parties will claim victory.

I just hope its straight forward either a YES or a NO to put an end to all this drama or the drama will continue.

Not sure which cars you are talking about... but any person with respectable position gets some bonus on top of his salary

Even @Imran Khan of PDF had a car given by the company when I visited Saudi Arabia back in 2013. I see nothing wrong in it

Yes, of course PTI must resign and elections must be conducted in a free and fair manner from now on.

hahahaha like they are going to Resign according to PTI the election in Free and Fair in KPK but not in Punjab

did you know imran khan has offered re election in kpk on provincial seats but opposition refused and again after local bodies elections when gang of 6 parties cried rigging imran khan again offered them re election but they again ran away.
PTI has nothing to hide and is always ready to face the public unlike PML-N and their overt and covert allies

Maybe in a Sultanate but not in a country where the ruling class uses your money to invest and says we give you a gift! Aysay zara mujhay 10k pounds dayna I will get you a gift ;)

BTW, respect uss position ki hoti hai which does its work not for those which are on sale to the highest bidder!

Company giving you a car as part of your package vs open bribery to a judge weeks/ mths before a case which involves him....sounds fishy? Had it been IK who gave cars you would have never heard the end of it...Lets be honest for once....does the CJ really need new cars or does the public need electricity? Priorities?

Lets just hypothesize that PTI cheated...Does it make sense that they cheated and made the most noise? :pop:

Takes one to just use less than an ounce of their brain energy to figure this one out ;)
