China is now the biggest market for gulf energy products. America is now self sufficient on energy front and do not rely on gulf for its energy needs.

That leave the security. If America threaten to pull the rug under sheikdoms of gulf, China will be more then happy to move into that front as well.

He's obly pulling back the military, he's not completely leaving the Middle East. Protection doesn't come only with military presence, without the US no Gulf regime can stay in power...

China can learn the ways of the United States and the Soviet Union, trying to find as many allies and vassals, but they will not do so because this path is not good for China.
