The Russian company "Kamov" Announced that the Egyptian pilots will train in Russia to fly the helicopters "Ka-52 K" for the helicopters carriers "Mistral".

Sergei Mekhiev, the company's chief engineer, said in an interview with TASS,

"Our main focus is on training crews to command K-52K helicopters in Egypt.

The Russian Federation of Military Technical Cooperation announced last June that Russia would supply Egypt with the "Ka-52K" helicopters assigned to the two helicopters carriers "Mistral".

The Ka-52k is a modified version of the Ka-52 helicopter known as the Crocodile.

Did they sign a contract or even the tender for the Katrans? Seems strange to have pilots train to fly the naval version if they haven't signed a deal yet.

This means clearly that the contract was signed.. otherwise the news won't make any sense ..

That's the thing with these Russians, even the Egyptian military is complicit when dealing with Russians, things are never announced with official clarity. The say "delivered to Egypt" when clearly there is no delivery but some kind of training in Russia etc., lol. Must be a language thing.

All the US, French, German and even Chinese and others are always published and clearly announced. Russian ones, they leave you with all this second-guessing.

It makes complete sense that they would end up with Katrans for the Mistrals, but it would be nice of them to actually announce things officially. Ruskies. :-)

First, some Russian official has said before, that it is Egypt who has asked for some discreteness (it was about the Mg-35).. but in general if one follows the news he can make sense of it, like in this instance where the K was in negotiations, than came the news of the bidding, followed by the news of the Katran winning the bidding and now that it will be supplied to Egypt and the training Egyptian pilots on it..= deal signed..
Before the Egyptians asking for some discreteness, the Russians were just too happy to announce the deals, much before their conclusions..
